And if any or possibly some uninvolved third party cargo ship were to become damaged or destroyed, much less any deaths that could follow - what ramifications could follow from that?

So, taking Iran's main negotiation point off the table is not viable?
This is why we haven't succeeded in any military conflict since ww2.

I clearly know more about military mobility/countermobility operations and capabilities than you do. Enjoy your crayon dinner.

You just enjoy being boondoggle in a quagmire. You, and your ilk are the reason for every shitshow post ww2. Including this one.

Nah, just say the straight is closed for Iranian traffic, announce partnerships and timelines for alternate paths for oil to make the straight obsolete and also get agreements for increased production from other oil producing states.
If we're not going to arrange a way for someone to get boots on the ground, them we need to sunset the straight by coming up with alternate means of moving oil and no Iranian oil gets to market. Let the world know things will get better in time, but get used to higher prices because the Straight is closed and Iran is no longer a player in world markets.
that might actually drive them to the table, but if not, it's an actual plan for the future.

And the easiest way to do that is to mine it.
Or would you be ok being on constant 14 month deployment?

I guess you’re right, what else could we say. I don’t that’s gonna cut it though.
I’d say that potentiality could realistically speaking lead to a much worse international scenario. Yes, would your suggestion yield benefits and advantages, sure. But they are outweighed by the potential/likelihood and nature of the risks.

What are the risks? Everyone k ows whats there. They k ow what they have to do to pass. Alternative routes develop.
Its a win any way you look at it.
Anyone off course and getting hit by one knew what they were doing beforehand

Me and mine were part of the two most successful invasions in the history of the US military; OJC and ODS. What's your score?

Yeah? What was that?
Please. Name, rank, and mos sir?
You weren't shite.
Your the defeatist who believes we will find a deal.
You have proven in your comments that you dont have what it takes to win against someone who doesn't give a frick
Hope you dont mean iraq and Afghanistan.
I have several friends who are dead and their family members would love to tear your throat out if so.
Just curious
Eta. Nevermind. One eas a nothing campaign and one was a beat down that you clearly had nothing to do with or executing beyond drone level work.
And... had you been successful in the latter we wouldn't have been back in 2003.

Why? How is it worse than what we are doing. How wouldn't it achieve our goals?

I appreciate your enthusiasm for solving this 47 year old problem that only recently we have had a president willing to try to solve it and not just ignore it.
Pretty sure mines are against the Geneva convention. While the Iran cheerleaders on this site get excited every time Iran mines the strait, if you want to hear true howls of outrage let us try mining the Strait.
Trump would be sent to the Hague while the dead Iranian "weekend at Bernies" mullah would win the nobel peace prize.

LOL, I actually answered that question in my post. Anyone that had been in the military would have known exactly what I meant.
My most relevant position re this topic was as the S3 in an Engineering Battalion.

We are the literal only ones who follow the Geneva convention. All of our enemies dont.
Its a handcuff on Americans. Thats all it is.
You're OK with that?
