The most interesting point is found in the final paragraph. For the most part, the conservatives who practiced this “patriotic correctness“ do not even seem to realize that they are doing so.
Can you point to examples? This is an opinion piece. So i find it curious how someone can lend credence to it, if there are no examples. What is "patriotic PC", what are some examples, and what is the result? Because, to me, this just seems like the author thinks that opinions of others not the same as his, is bad.

The only price you should expect when exercising free speech is the ridicule from those that disagree with you. But the boos and hisses and names and labels you get will be drowned out by the cheers and yells of your supporters if they exist. Without both you never know the direction of the winds of change that all societies experience.
If you find yourself in an echo chamber you are lost with no way to navigate and you are open to manipulation. If you voice your opinion in a free market of ideas and only get boos you are motivated to reevaluate your stance.
The first instance is thought control, the second is thought evolution.
The problem is the current arena of ideas doesn't accept the opinion of the audience as valid.
There are moneyed manipulators pushing the left toward a revolution aimed at overthrowing the Judaeo Christian societies that are based on equality, and freedom through moral laws that have come to replace older models based on class and power. The return of these older models will be a modern dark age ruled over by rich progressives.

I think it's safe to assume you don't know anything about Cato's stance on immigration.

I’m not. I’m a centrist Democrat who voted for Trump. But, just in the past two days I’ve been called a transophobe and socialist; a reactionary neocon and a sky screaming liberal. People see what they want I guess. It’s amusing.

Like me, the Cato Institute is libertarian and capitalistic. They support the free flow of labor, as any free market advocate would do.

Maybe if it was the 1950s. People lost their jobs if they were just suspected of being a communist sympathizer aka pinko.
I don't know too many people who have lost their jobs for being 'not patriotic enough" in the last 3 decades.
Compare that to the PC/SJW climate of today.

The fact that you can post this dulls your point significantly. I've been given warnings/temporary bans on more liberal areas of the internet for *very* mild things.
"I think affirmative action is racist, the best person should get the job period."
Boom, gone.
"I think biological sex and gender are the same thing."
Boom, gone.
"I think Kap is doing more harm than good, if you want to protest pick a better venue."
Boom, gone.
I see progressives posting on right leaning message boards all the time, yall get push back from the posters but the mods leave you be. The reverse isn't true. No doubt some people on the right are censorship happy, but don't pretend its an even split. It's 90/10 at this point. The left owns the vast majority of the fascists.

Sorry , but a Democrat is a Liberal.
Abortion and handouts is the Democrat Party's main platforms.
