I just watched the first episode. Great looking show.
In the early hours of the disaster the Soviets minimize the danger and do everything they can to protect the State from criticism.
I found it to be a criticism of Soviet Russia which valued the State above the individual.
Well nope, some dipshit from The Atlantic says it is a comment on global warming deniers who are killing millions by denying science.
How he came to that conclusion is beyond me.

And that is the kind of decision making the progs in this country want. Exactly, what the old man said.

I think it’s more about how white people are inherently evil . Like when they caused global warming which caused the earthquake which caused Fukushima.

Their mind was made up before they even watched.

I enjoyed it. I didn’t get any hint at a secret global warming message, but it doesn’t paint socialism in a good light.

Exactly.
However the Socialists cant see the point even when its in the form of a radioactive 2 x 4 hitting them.

I've always thought that ships in the desert was such a bizarre sight.

Haven't watched the show, but hopefully, they talk about the Chernobyl divers.
Brave and honorable heroes. Same as the retired engineers of Fukushima that volunteered to protect the younger people.

The divers of the Chernobyl disaster risked their lives to extreme levels of radiation exposure in order to save the lives of thousands, But they wanted to avoid the unimaginable damages that could have impacted or destroyed parts of Europe and possibly other countries or the world. They essentially chose to give up their lives for there own core values.
Three volunteers, equipped only in diving suits and with a faulty lamp, took the job of opening the pool gates upon themselves. Two of the divers where Chernobyl engineers, Alexi Ananeko and Valeri Bezpalov, who knew where the valves to open the gate where located. The third man was named Boris Baranov who went with them to provide them with light from an underwater lamp which later failed. The failure of the lamp caused the two engineers to find the valves by feeling their way to them in the darkness. Luckily the two engineers were able to find and open the valves and all three men returned to the surface. Unfortunately after their exposure to the radiation, all three men suffered from radiation sickness and later died.

Pretty bad, but Fukushima and it's contamination of the Pacific Ocean is arguably worse.

i haven't seen the show yet, but on NPR yesterday their meme was "this is a story about a government that doesn't care about facts" and what it says about the Trump admin

I can't give the memory and the courage of those 3 gentlemen enough respect. They took on a suicide mission.

If you want to know more about Chernobyl and nuclear accidents in general, read this fascinating book:
Atomic Accidents: A History of Nuclear Meltdowns and Disasters: From the Ozark Mountains to Fukushima

The State, Party, and Bureaucracy trumped the individual in Soviet Russia. Party before people, not unlike the American Democrat Party.

Did he draw this conclusion with a crayon?

I'm beginning to see the outlines of exactly this paradigm right here in the USA, when it comes to the Democratic Party's way of governing. Of course, when they are out of power, they act as though a foreign adversary has conquered the USA and they must defeat the adversary by any means necessary -- sort of like how the Soviets viewed the Nazi invader.
Fascinating.
The USA is well on this path.
