History has shown that blacks are not capable of creating or running an existing first world country. Its the sad but simple stone cold truth. Apartheid may have sucked...but the blacks in that region under apartheid were 100x better off than any other sub saharan black run country today.

The world would have been much better off if the US had simply invested in and defended the Boers rather than fighting in Vietnam, and the middle east.

The country would have been better off if the National Party had started the integration process in the 40's, a process which they turned their backs on, and caused a militarized response by the ANC after the Sharpsville massacre. National Party governments had every opportunity to reintegrate the country and chose the myopic option each time. Furthermore, both South Africa and Zimbabwe have countries with the same ethnic groups who have been relatively successful. Botswana shares a similar ethnic make-up to South Africa, but doesn't have a history of apartheid, and has a council made up of white residents which gives them a political voice. Botswana was one of the poorest countries in the world at independence, but have grown at rates similar to the economies of Asia. There is a similar dynamic between Zambia and Zimbabwe, in which the relatively poor region of Zambia has had larger economy growth than Zimbabwe (especially since 2000).

People suggesting South Africa would be better off during apartheid don't seem to acknowledge that the National Party made their own bed. Rarely does anyone criticize the party on this board, and instead pretends South Africa could be no other way. Botswana and Zambia show that if there is no history of racial stratification (at the government level), the country will be better off in the long run.

That's going to be interesting. The Chinese are the ones with the capital these days, and they do spread it around. But they always want something for it.

And I think they are hip to the bait and switch, "Invest and build here, we won't nationaize it later, honest."

But they don't bother with this value and democracy spreading. Want to invest in your citizens? Have a democracy? Cool.

Want to run a police state with government sanctioned hit squads and the army putting down rioters? That's cool too.

All they want is ROI. And they have no fricks to give.

So I really don't know what happens long term, the Chinese aren't going to put up with the SA government's BS, and while NGO's and western governments will give enough handouts for the big wheels to accumulate villas and whore money in Switzerland (that's the important thing), it isn't going to be enough to address the coming powderkeg issues and social instablility.

Because seizing these farms is only a short term solution. They have gotten themselves into a situation where cities like Capetown and Pretoria are looking at not having functional water and sewage systems, with power failures to come as well.

Big mess. By the grace of god I hope the Afrikaners can leave, don't worry about getting anything for the land, just leave and don't look back.

I have friends who own a hunting ranch there and are very concerned. There are pirates who are roaming and have already robbed them and shot my friend. Luckily he survived. Now he can't sell his 94,000 acres that was purchased. It will be taken from him with no payment. Does anyone know of a country ran by natives that is successful? I can't think of one. No rule of law, just thieves.
