WASHINGTON (WLS) -- A new bill introduced in Congress Wednesday would protect recording artists from having their lyrics used against them in court. The RAP Act, which stands for Restoring Artistic Protection Act, aims to protect a musician's right to creative expression.

We cannot imprison our talented artists for expressing their experiences nor will we let their creativity be suppressed," Bowman said.

I thought we had the first amendment. Why is this bill necessary?

OK, so if the Proud Boys had sung rap songs about storming the Capital and killing Mike Pence on Jan 6, everything would be okey dokey?

Good point. But I think you know the reason.

This is simply evidence of how much the 1st amendment has already eroded.

Ozzy and Judas Priest could’ve used this back in the 80s.

I like how they referenced “I shot the Sheriff” by Bob Marley in the discussion.

Is this the part where they make the N-Word illegal but POC can legally say it?

Jamaal Bowman and Hank Johnson are the co-sponsors. That's a brain trust right there.

... there was a rap song that came out around Mardi Gras where the lyrics said something about meeting at a "car jack".
It was a big hit at that time --- but the radio stations seemed to have pulled it off the air after that woman was dragged and her arm severed from her body.

Did that rap song give those kids ideas?
