NEW YORK (AP) — The ranks of forgotten Republicans are growing. Some were forced out, such as Tim Pawlenty, a former two-term Minnesota governor who lost this week's bid for a political comeback. Some, such as the retiring Republican Sen. Bob Corker, chose to leave on their own. Others still serve, but with a muted voice.

Whether members of Congress, governors or state party leaders, they are struggling to fit into President Donald Trump's Republican Party. The expanding list of marginalized GOP leaders underscores how thoroughly Trump has dominated — and changed — the Republican Party in the nearly two years since he seized the presidency.

The overwhelming majority of elected officials, candidates and rank-and-file voters now follow the president with extraordinary loyalty, even if he strays far from the values and traditions many know and love....

"I hope this is a very temporary place for the Republican Party," said Corker.

This is working as intended.

Draining the swamp doesn’t care which side they’re on.

Take trump out of the equation. What the hell has Pawlenty and Corker and these other GOP leaders done to help their constituents? Maybe it hasn’t occurred to them or this writer that their voting base wasn’t happy and they weren’t getting shite done...

All Jeff flake has done is curb trumps nominees for positions. He hasn’t even given sufficient reasoning as to why he’s doing it. So one would think it’s only to spite the president.

A ton of disgruntled ex-Democrats joined the GOP and the traditional GOP fat cat is now a Democrat. It's a different party. Trump is the result, not the cause.

For years the GOP willingly took it on the chin without so much as a counterpunch and all that got them was the unholy triumvirate of obama/Reid/Pelosi.

Drain'em, forget'em.

The forgotten Republicans — people like former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake, South Carolina Rep. Mark Sanford and Ohio Gov. John Kasich — have been unwilling to sit quietly as Trump steers the GOP away from free trade, fiscal responsibility, consistent foreign policy and civility.

White House legislative director Marc Short says President Trump wants trade to be on a "level playing field."
"The tariffs are part of an effort to get us to hopefully one day where we have true free and fair trade," says Short.

I guess they weren’t Republicans during W.’s GOP

consistent foreign policy

Like moving the embassy to Jerusalem? Pulling out of deals they panned like the Paris Agreement and JCPOA? Finishing off ISIS? Enforcing Obama’s red line?

If the GOP leaders don’t have anyone following them, are they really leaders, or just yesterday’s politicians?

That’s at the heart of it, they’re always worried about the next election rather than spending political capital on the here and now, someone finally shows up with balls and they freak out. Nothing is promised tomorrow.

In a word: GOPe.

The indirect way of stating "establishment" is "traditions".

Stop posting here while you are at drill. Do your drill work when you are at drill. It is illegal for you to post here while you are supposed to be performing your drill duties.

You are a field grade Officer. Act like it.

Those in the Senate couldnt get re-elected. The majority of House Republicans retiring are Committee Chairmen. Ryan initiated caucus rules establishing term limits for Committee Chairmen...8 years. So instead of becoming peons with no clout theyre all retiring.

I think the reason is obvious. Trump called him a flake. Then the senator got all butthurt.
