I volunteer at the food pantry and help with our church food drives. I assist with our winter warming centers for the homeless/anyone cold in winter. I also drove the church van to provide transportation for the disabled and elderly but had to quit for medical reasons. I was in the Christian Appalachian project.

We collect from among us for food, hotel, medical, and rent. Some places give us discounts for monthly lodging with utilities. We cannot assist everyone which is rough. I do struggle over whether I give enough but I have a family, and that is my first obligation.

Just once I’d like to see a story about a family where:
A man and woman made good decisions as kids and got educated
Married and haven’t cheated, been arrested or addicted to drugs
Worked and progressed career wise since they were 16
We’re frugal and financially sound
Pay for all of their own shite
Pay their healthcare bills
Save for their own retirement
Had kids…paid for their shite too
Sacrifice to help get them established
Encourage them to make good decisions to set them up
AND pay more in taxes each year than this bum the other members of the least common denominators of society will ever make in their lifetime.
These are the people we need to be writing about.

He aint working if he can't afford $450 a month rent.
In my area cheapest studio apartments are around $1300 a month. 1bd apartments range from around $1400-$1550. Lot of people here aren't skilled workers. They've never had to be to afford housing because even if they only earned $2k a month in wages for 40hours a week, housing was still affordable for them since studios used to be around $400-$500 a month. 3br 2bath houses were around $800-$1200 in decent areas. These were prices before the area was overun with illegals a few years ago.
This is only affecting the no skilled workers who haven't already bought their house. But i do feel bad for them. Because the era of non skilled workers easily affording even the shittiest of housing is over. The shittiest of housing is going to skilled blue collar workers and white collar workers.
