I pledge allegiance, to the flag, for which it stands. One nation, UNDER GOD, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

I’m 42 years old. That is how we said it- every damn day that we were in school. I’m not interested in your internet links to tell me it was never in there. Im not interested in your stories about someone else’s experience. I’m interested in knowing if any of you, personally, have ever been taught to say it without “under God”. Thanks in advance.

To be honest I kind of have a problem with the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. What if that flag is taken over by fascists and communists? You should pledge allegiance to American/Western ideals, but that’s a hell of an allegiance that could mean really anything.

The pledge of allegiance is a socialist creed that violates the First Commandment. I will pledge allegiance to my God and my family above all.

I kind of agree with this take. Pledging allegiance doesn’t mean much if a kid has no idea about the values and beliefs that flag is supposed to represent.
I said the Pledge every school day from K-8, but it only meant something because my parents taught me what it was about.
Unless you have that background, it’s just something else to recite before the teacher asks for yesterday’s homework.

“And to the republic for which it stands” is what you are really pledging allegiance to. Not the cloth itself. We may very well be too far gone from the original republic, but that’s what the flag stands for. Not whatever shite is coming next to try to replace it.

Yeah, have a former friend who is a communist and openly bragged that communists wrote the Pledge of Allegiance. I’m not sure if what he said was true, but I agreed with him because it seems like something a dirty commie would write. I once saw a YouTube video where German school children swore their lives and loyalty to Hitler…. and I haven’t been able to shake that since. I’m incredibly patriotic, but I don’t see myself willingly saying the Pledge again, and keep in mind I did the morning announcements in 10th grade so I’ve very vocally said this.

No actually not. I’m old (72) and can remember when “under God” was added in the 1950s. I think I was in 1st or 2nd grade.

It’s both. Plus what if my Republic goes against American ideals and against the law? No, that’s still wrong. Stand up for the Founding Principles, not any government structure.

is creepy AF.

The idea that we're supposed to pledge allegiance to a government is crazy, but beyond that, we aren't supposed to be a single "nation", but a federation of states.

The only thing that pledge does is drive it into people's heads even more that the fed gov should reign supreme.

We might be going to the same place by different routes.

American ideals will last much longer with a structure to reside within. The people are supposed to remain vigilant to protect the structure. History demonstrates that vigilance is finite.

I get that. But, the government is supposed to be for the people, by the people. The people (which is us) are responsible for upholding the ideals that the flag represents. We, collectively, over decades, have failed those ideals- miserably. If we, as a nation, under God, can recognize and admit our individual failures, then, as a nation, under God, we can right the ship. Even if you don’t believe in God- you have to realize that those who do are not your enemy- unless you engage in activities that are detrimental to our first amendment rights.

I’m not going to blindly deny that. I will, however, ask that you provide muh context.
