I'm sorry, but an LSU chemical engineering degree is way more impressive than Harvard Poly Sci.

Alabama actually has more national merit scholars than Rice because they give large merit scholarships to those students. Rice doesn’t give a shite.
And I'm not defending Rice I stated so and say again the whole process for selecting students too many ChiComs, the culture on campus, the vibe. it's all changed and none of it for the better
But I think that's the same for every major university in the past 40 years Some have become more liberal or unhinged than others but all of them have gotten more liberal and unhinged

Every policy failure has Ivy League architects behind it, especially when you include schools like Stanford and MIT under the Ivy umbrella.
A confederacy of dunces can be shown the right way to go and the right thing to do, and will usually discover that path on their own.
A confederacy of experts will always insure the wrong thing gets done because their egos are generally more important to them than the results of their ideas that they heap upon others.

Some of it is liberal and unhinged, some of it is the explosion of "school rankings". Schools just chase the metrics now that will move them up the list instead of concentrating on excellence.

I don’t know if they do or they don’t. That wasn’t my argument.
My argument is that top students often choose merit scholarships over prestige and debt. Do you think the 36 ACT kids at Alabama are dumber than the 36 ACT kids at Rice?

Think of it this way…there are far fewer people capable of graduating with a 4.0 ChemE degree than those who could carry that GPA in Poly Sci at Harvard…sorry you have a Poly Sci degree and aren’t a real problem solver

If they could do that they wouldn't be dunces. Are you seriously arguing against intelligence being a desirable metric for leaders?

So no one suggests that my criticism is blind
According to Rice University’s demographics webpage, based on federal definitions, 34% of students enrolled in the university are Asian American, while 30% are white, 19% are Hispanic and 7% are Black.
the true demographics of Texas which as stated in the Charter were the intended recipients
Hispanic or Latino: 40.2%
White (Non-Hispanic): 39.8%
Black or African American: 11.6%
Asian: 5.1%
American Indian or Alaska Native: 1.5%
Two or More Races: 3.1%
Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander: 0.2%
Some other race: 0.4%

I don't see Langley U. on that list.

Do you think the 36 ACT kids at Alabama are dumber than the 36 ACT kids at Rice?
because ACT scores are not the best or most comprehensive indicator of intelligence.
And all things considered the average student at Rice,, or Michigan, Souther Cal, Notre Dame , Georgia,Florida are smarter than the average student at 'bama
And for the record Rice has never lost the Alabama in football
And before someone brings it up to remind me or everybody else here I left before I had my degree so I'm not claiming any personal superiority over anyone who received a degree from any respected private state or online institution

Yes sir. And don't forget Berkeley.

Yes, this is true. Especially so-called evil geniuses / "experts" and malignant narcissists are attracted to the manipulating the power structure.
It is also true that any and all "wrong things done" aka FUBAR'd are completely by design, by script, by cast and direction. Benevolence? Not so much (or at all.)

yes because ACT scores are not a true indicator of intelligence.
Wrong.
Your score on a standardized test such as the ACT or SAT is the number one predictive measure on how well you will handle college level work. It’s why many top schools have gone back to requiring tests after going optional for several years.

which was the question
well is a gump more dumber than an Owl was the general question I don't recall the test scores used in the question...
Whether someone succeeds at a college-level environment in obtaining an education does not match up with IQ it can be an indicator but it's not an absolute
And in advance, I beg your apologies for any delay in responding i'm having an equally stupid argument on the O T

So you’re saying the test-optional, non-binary gender studies freak at Rice is more intelligent than the 36 ACT engineering student at Alabama because Rice > Bama.
Got it. Good discussion.

Can you find fault with how the rankings are done, sure . It would still generally be agreed that a school ranked in the top 20 is better than a school that struggles to be ranked in the 200s
If you disagree then I would ask you why was Rice was not in the college playoffs this year and how did the come up with their rankings?
Again in all of history Alabama has never beaten Rice in a football game

There colleges that surpass ivy league. I hold cal tech, mit, and Colorado school of mines in higher regard.

In hindsight, I wish I had gone to Washington U in Saint Louis I had a partial and a promise for additional assistance
but I look bad in red
But I had been a Rice fan since I was eight years old

I think what you’re saying is correct if you’re talking about the “average” student at these schools. But I’d argue that the top-tier students aren’t much different at any of these major universities.
This is correct.

There is still a place in academia for upper echelon/prestigious Ivy League schools, particularly those that are strong in STEM. On the other hand most universities have become cultural Marxism finishing schools. Look at Harvard, Duke, Yale, etc. law graduates, I guarantee most of those law graduates are hard core leftists and have been for the past 50-60 years..... our current leftist judiciary would be proof of my claims.

I honestly and I'm not trying to win an argument here
I'm just saying I sincerely believe that because of the social awkwardness of your higher-success academic types
They are then more easily influenced once they get to college away from family and friends and the indoctrination has an even greater effect on the personality type
nerds an auties, Rice used to host a NoD ,, Night of Decadence
horney awkward kids getting drunk and having an orgy
And in my time there we had the highest suicide rate of any university in the country
