re: The NFL becoming woke isn’t a losing strategy for them

Much like Nike, the NFL knows what it’s doing by moving leftward
Viewer ratings will tell the tale for the NFL.

Posted this in an earlier thread.
Covid sucking all of the oxygen out of the room gives them a chance to virtue signal, and then check it off the list with what they expect to be minimum of damage to their brand.
My husband and I are both old enough to remember the first Saints game.
We had gradually returned to watching after the whole Kaepernick thing, but this it.
We are not going back, and we’re not going to support people who hate us.

When viewership drops, dramatically (and it will), advertising rates drop, team revenue drops, player salaries plateau, the NFL will get on its final death spiral.

You might be right. My philosophy is that I can only control what I can control... and I can control NOT watching the NFL. Ever.
If the rest of you patriots show similar self control, we'll make a dent.

The present absolute worst case scenario for the NFL this season (if the season is played) is an average 25% decline in television viewership versus last season.
It would be better for them to outright cancel than to take that 25% hit. At the end of the day, when it comes time to negotiate television contracts, the networks are going to want a 25% discount.

The existential threat to the NFL is not from bad publicity or lawsuits regarding brain trauma.
It's from young boys not playing football, which will cause the pipeline to dry up and interest to decline over time.
Being "woke" has nothing to do with either.
Mothers are not letting their boys play football in record numbers. I have a son and I am seeing it all the time.

and will make record profits when COVID passes.......see how Nike also experienced increased profits?
See, the majority of money spent doesn't align itself with folks like you. Is what it is.
Nike just reported a loss of $790 million, and total revenue that was down 38% to $6.31 billion from $10.18 billion a year ago.

jesus......not smart are you?
I'll go ahead and point it out: pre-COVID
Profits at Nike rose double-digits in the months after launching a controversial ad campaign with Colin Kaepernick, a rebuke to critics like President Trump who chastised the company for selecting the former-National Football League player who became the face of pregame protests.
Revenue at the Beaverton, Ore.-based retailer rose 10 percent in the three months through November to $9.3 billion. Net income also increased 10 percent to $847 million. Sales in North America, which would theoretically be most impacted by the marketing ploy, rose 9 percent in the quarter to $3.7 billion.

I was someone who rolled his eyes when people would soapbox about Kaepernick and Eric Reid kneeling..
After watching the leader of the Saints -- a guy who has given back tirelessly to the community in New Orleans -- get publicly whipped for saying he didn't agree with kneeling during the national anthem.... i've lost all interest in following the team this year
I'm not actively "protesting the NFL", and I'm sure I'll end up watching some games, but I'm not going to spend all day Sunday with Fox/CBS on the TV.
I look forward to spending that time with my kids

I'm not the one claiming profits when there are losses.
They were posting quarterly losses pre-covid. They did have a good 2019.

True Americans who love their country won't stand for having their noses rubbed in this blm BS, and find something else to do. That is a lot of their fan base. Do the nfl idiots think those lost fans will be replaced by soy boys who don't even understand the game and never played it? We'll see how this works out.

It comes down to globalism.
Every major media outlet is owned by a giant, international corporation. Most don’t even represent anything significant toward their bottom line, but the big microphone is beyond price. They’ll take a loss in fans, ratings, viewership, credibility because they know it’s minor compared to the generations coming up swimming in their social engineering. We’re seeing it at a level unprecedented in our history because Donald Trump dared to evoke the concept of nationalism and populism and global money can’t allow that. They couldn’t care less about the left’s social causes or football. But they need to kill America.

Understandable, but your thought fails to recognize that a lot of folks on the right will no longer support the NFL.
It’s not exactly a league with a fan support model built on minorities and cuck, soy boys. When the duel anthems are played and the kneel starts.....people will walk away.

lol
the far right, former-fans will not affect the bottom line in any appreciable manner.
you and yours are, in fact, the minority.
Sucks to read reality (for you), but it is what it is.
So many of you fail to see the core fanbases reside in URBAN America which does not align with the perspectives you "patriots" have.
To be clear, you do NOT define patriotism. You simply interpret in your own skewed manner.

When a chorus of boos are rained down on the players for kneeling and other BLM frickery causes the boos to come out, MSM won't cover it, YouTube will delete it and the NFL will deny they even heard it.
