In the heyday of the Harlem Globetrotters, they traveled with an regular opponent called the Washington Generals. The Generals were effectively stooges for the Globetrotters, with the Globetrotters handily defeating them in thousands of games.
They’d pretend to legitimately try to win, but mostly, they stood around and let players like Meadowlark Lemon make fools of them while they feigned to passively guard them.
That’s what the Republican Party has become, the Washington Generals.
A patsy that pretends to be opposition, but are assured to lose and let the Globetrotters have their way.

That’s actually pretty funny and a very spot on analogy

Exactly
A sad thought is the Generals could probably form a better political party than the GOP.

I understand having to vote for the Generals, but it doesn’t have to be the same lineup!

Please tell me you know that both parties are patsies. It's all a game - a politician's sole job is to stay in power. Open your eyes.

Whether you want to view the Dems as patsies or not, their agenda gets passed.

Spot on

I’ve always felt like politics is a lot like pro wrestling. Heels and faces on tv playing up to their fans, putting on a show for the camera, and slapping backs while toasting up some Steveweisers with each other backstage and talking about how good of a work that was.

So in that regard, I’d like to throw out the comparison that the GOPe is essentially the greatest jobber of all time
