Look at how deep in this board's head this issue is. You guys claim to be smarter than the average citizen and more informed, and this singular issue is driving this board bananas. If you think it's not a winning issue, it wouldn't be occupying so much space in all of your heads.

Politically speaking, they played this hand too soon.

Makes you wonder what they’ll come up with closer to the election.

Yeah, I can't see a lot of people going to the polls in November to save the children from the cages. When you're this far out from the election the only hope is a fundraiser bump and I don't see people sending checks in to the DNC to save the Mexicans.

It's not a winning issue for them when their Grand High Witch (Schumer) says they won't take up an immigration bill because they want to keep the focus on Trump.

Who is hurting these kids exactly? The people enforcing the law, or the ones who refuse to fix it and would rather use those kids for political points?

A slower play might have worked better, but the issue was starting to get traction. They had to play the hand when it was dealt. This would have been great to have happen in late September.

Honestly, these tv ads are writing themselves in the fall. And the beauty about this is dems win no matter what. Rs cave, then they get pummeled from the right. Rs don't cave, then they get labeled as psychopaths.

An air of desperation helps turn a winnable situation or close loss into a total rout.

Once you start losing and desperately try to change the momentum, you throw conventional wisdom out the window in hopes of doing something, anything, to reverse the drop.

Going into this cycle I would have thought the Dems would make significant gains in the House and minimized their losses in the Senate just due to structural issues (PA redistricting, number of GOP Senate seats up).

Now that Trump’s policies are paying off and the various traps laid for him have failed, they’re throwing any shite they can think of at the wall to try and change the momentum.

The issues in question could normally do such a thing but they’re pushing so hard and so fast that they’re doing faceplants whenever their moves get countered.

The revelations that this issue, and the bad pictures associated with it, date back to Obama combined with Schmuck refusing to allow a fix be passed will end up turning this issue against them.

Trump is signing an EO within hours and will throw the ball back in the Dems court. They will not pass a bill and give Trump a win. This issue will haunt them in the midterm.

So you admit, it’s political and dems (like repubs) really don’t give a shite about this issue?

I like the honesty. It’s refreshing.

They are being successful in drawing attention away from the OIG report and the hearings.

This was their main goal and if they can capture some momentum in energizing their voting base then all the better.

Well they are certainly going to extract as much political capital as they can from it.

I do think that the majority of the democrat base is horrified by what is happening.

Oh yes. The faux outrage is real. Funny how that outrage materializes on command.

This was happening last week, and the week before, and the week before that.

So much for honesty.

I know it isnt a winning issue.

A college kid who just made a 'C' in Intro to Poli Sci would know it isn't a winning issue.

One of the many problems with this issue is that it is purely emotional and such emotion cannot be sustained until November. Even the emotional outrage over school shootings tends to dissipate after a week or two.

Democrats are most definitely overplaying their hand, which isn't very good to start with.

horseshite - they weren't horrified for the last 9-10 years. The problem is, Trump will simply fix this separation issue by EO and you'll latch on to another emotional appeal. Meanwhile, congress will do nothing to get an immigration bill passed. Something needs to blow up the political gamesmanship once and for all - yeah, that won't happen.
