Yep it’s a complicated problem involving these 4 things in my opinion.

Breakdown of family structure, addiction to video games (not shooters just addiction in general) these kids hole themselves up in the dark basement and don’t interact with humans as much as they should, the addiction to social media which again ties into lack of actual human interaction, and the collapse of Christianity in everyday life. I’m not saying you have to be a believer, but just being taught to love your fellow man, do unto others as you’d have them do unto you, love your enemies, turn the other cheek etc..,Those principles are being eradicated from American society slowly but surely.

And yet violent crime continues to decrease.

It's almost as if we now have to ability to see how terrible human beings are, and always have been, because of complete and transparent access to news through various mediums 24/7.

The saturation of religion didn't stop priests from raping children. Or people from killing blacks. Or further back, the Catholic Church from murdering thousands. People have always been garbage, regardless of their teachings.

Now, I do think the social media theory does have some merit. These kids hole themselves up and are filled with rage from being social outcasts. It used to be you could escape that when you got home and divert your energy elsewhere. But the issues of bullying, not fitting in, etc now hang over these kids' heads every waking hour.

If anything, it encouraged it.

And yet the ilk keep making absurd claims based on nothing while continually denying the overwhelming evidence contrary to their "thesis" (which essentially amounts to - "get off my lawn").

So why have violent crimes gone down?

Various enforcement strategies that target "the right" perpetrators combined with better treatment of certain mental illnesses have contributed to this.

There is another factor that few want to discuss (for various reasons), but it was covered in Chapter 4 of a book that rhymes with Creakonomics.

We're all laughing at you.

Or we would be if the underlying stories weren't so sad.

The rate is NOT increasing. They are getting more "deadly". But, the discrete incidence rate is not increased
