The GoFundMe "We The People Will Fund The Wall" Campaign grew 1/2

a mil in just 4 hours. I posted on 12/19/18 at 7:34 pm in another thread that the donations were at nearly 1.5 million with ~24-25K people donating. That averaged $60 per donation. I checked it just now, it's been a mere 4 hours and 10K more people have donated and it's at: $2,068,213.
Do all these gofundme campaigns grow this fast?

$5 bil in a gofundme is an insane amount, but it's not even a rounding error in the Federal black hole.

I am not trying to rain on this parade. Just asking a question.
The gofundme website has shadow banned this gofundme account. So the growth would be even faster than it already is!
My question is this. Is there a mechanism to get these funds to the right hands? Before I spend money on this I want to know if it will actually happen. And if not what happens to the money?

That’s nice, and I’m glad to see the people making a statement, but I feel like I’ve already contributed by paying my taxes. 
I do hope, however, that maybe it’ll get big enough for it to gain some attention in Washington and let the GOP (and Trump) know that this is something worth fighting for. (If I knew the unused funds would go to worthwhile cause/charity then I’d throw in some money to help make the statement, but I know nothing about anyone involved with this account.)

Supposedly, if the campaign isn't successful then all funds are returned to those who donated. Yep, this is listed within his "story" section:
• If we don’t reach our goal or come significantly close we will refund every single penny. We are working on a time frame to achieve.
