The downward spiral accelerated when it became “uncool” to use religion to form opinions

For years republicans were told “just drop the Jesus stuff, leave gays alone and don’t be so hardline on abortions”

“Just stop forcing religious beliefs”

I was one of the people arguing the above under the guise of libertarianism.

Looking back, it’s shamefully undeniable that the migration away from using religion as a basis for political stances has caused the decline to hasten.

“If you stand for nothing, you’ll fall for anything”, and once republicans stopped standing for religious beliefs, they stood for nothing.

Facts.

Truth. This sounds about right between 93 and 98.

Yep. A lot of folks on the left are going to find this out the hard way. You know the type that doesn't like what the left is doing but won't ever speak up about it other than to quietly and privately indicate they don't like it. Then they go out and publicly lambast conservatives for having the gall to even dare challenge the orthodoxy.

Nope....school sponsored prayer was removed in 1962 so start there.

That was the first step but Republican Christians didn’t truly acquiesce until late 90s/early00s.

It has been a process for a long time.

The left desired to push religious beliefs out of politics so that politics could become the religion of the left.

If only we replaced religion with fiscal responsibility.

Secularism is a big lie. It's godless nihilists defining themselves into having the only legitimate view, and the only right to have their basic beliefs inform their political opinions.

You don't get to define yourself into the winning spot, logically. But that's what godless secularists have done over the past 80 years.

Also because religion is actually protected by the constitution and “canceling” someone for religious beliefs is a harder sell to the average American than canceling someone for “white supremacy”.

Cancel culture didn’t really ramp up to 100 until religion stopped being the basis for beliefs.

Republicans were both. Then they lost religion...and the fiscal responsibility followed.

The door was "cracked" in '62. It has now been shoved open. We'll see the same results with many things starting to take place in this country right now!
The old "give an inch...take a mile!" axiom is a constant.

Is it really a religious belief to not want babies to be murdered?

Religion tends to form the foundation of moral code, once religion is removed, the moral code will erode away...

Yup. It's creepy how right 80s evangelicals were.

When the Left shamed people into hiding their religion, it was a huge success for them.

Also crazy to see how the Left now tries to use "morality" as their basis, after decades of "keep your morality to yourself!"

They just wanted to remove prayer from school.

Now they want to chop little boys penises off in school.

It’s a very slippery slope.

There was a video created in 1992, The Gay Agenda, that pretty much pegged everything we have seen over the last 10 years...

It was obviously horrific and sensationalized back then...
