America considers leaving Europe to defend herself. It works both ways.

How is it dangerous for us if we couldn’t already sell our cars in Europe or China??

We may be Europes biggest market for cars. Them letting in low price Chinese cars while us tariffing their cars would be akin to them slitting their own throats as they risk losing market share in both the EU and USA.

Seems like China has always offered a cheaper alternative to every American product. What am I missing here?

Everything these countries are doing to try to feign leverage over US is laughable. We are the only real consumer market on this planet.

So a tariff on Chinese car imports, paid by European consumers with proceeds going to China. Good plan. I'm sure China loves this idea.

The E.U./China trade relationship will never work long-term. Their demographics are so skewed to the elderly that neither has sufficient domestic consumption. They both need to be net exporters.

But a lot of EU car companies have manufacturing plants in the U.S. and make cars that are not subject to import tariffs.

Mercedes in Alabama.
BMW and Volvo in South Carolina.
Volkswagen in Tennessee.

And now all Stellantis brands are officially Italian with 22 plants in the U.S.

You are correct sir. Its a large market share!

The EU would take a hard hit if they no longer had access to the US market. The US would lose almost nothing, since we dont sell many cars in Europe.

Isn't their entire economy built on cheap knockoffs of American made products? What is changing?

This statement makes no sense. Like has previously been mentioned, Europe tariffs USA vehicle imports to the point that our companies cannot compete there. Tariffs Europe imposes on other countries are completely irrelevant to that discussion.

Let's leave Europe to itself. That also means to defend itself and find ways to support itself.

Not hyperbole. I wish we would abandon them and let them see how they fare.

This reminds me of Trump warning Germany about getting their energy from Russia and them ignoring it, should turn out similarly.

May be the way it started, but many American companies source good from China because there isn't an alternative made in the US anymore.

Elon sells a lot of Teslas in Europe. You think he'll be happy with this possible EU-China agreement to directly attack Tesla?

And therein lies a big part of the problem. America's been domesticated like a pet. We're losing the ability to provide for our own needs. It's sad but humorous watching the idiot author of that article above (I'm assuming he's an American) celebrating the fact that America can't compete with China while disparaging any attempt to rectify that problem.

Not to mention more shitty cars on the crowded roadways of EU.

Probably not. Elon will just have to adjust.

IDK how this will impact Tesla because they have a plant in the EU zone, Berlin.

Probably a dumb question, are the parts that are used to assembled cars in America by EU carmakers produced in America?

If not, are the parts subject to tariffs or no tariffs since the final product is “Made in America”?
