Why aren't there registries for other crimes? Armed robbers should have to send a postcard to all the banks in their area warning them to watch out. Domestic abusers should have to get a judge's approval for a marriage license. Drunk drivers should not be allowed to live within a certain distance of a liquor store.

It seems like extra punishment after the person has already served their jail time or is off parole.

The justification is that sexual based offenses have an incredibly high recidivism rate even given America's extraordinary recidivism rate.

it is crazy. most normal people are completely ignorant to the realities of these laws

they just think "pedo" and move on

even in the case in OP. he's 18 and she's 13. icky and probably worth being criminal, BUT do we need to make it THAT criminal ?

Are you still not dating bc you're worried about false rape claims?

I didn't see if he knew she was only 13, but if that is the case I don't have a problem with the registry sentence.

Yeah, 18 and 13 is hard to excuse but then again he didn't have sex with her. She sent a bra and panties pic, nothing explicit. No reason to load SWAT into the van.

When these things come up, I always think about a buddy of mine that was a lawyer. He was defending two guys that were 21 or so out of Shreveport. Two 16 year old girls that looked of age got into a club in Shreveport on fake IDs. They lied to to the guys about their age and went home with them.

One of the parent's of the girls had some pull and the guys were charged.

I'm glad I'm old and settled.

i thought about this over the weekend. at like 2am one night while taking a break from poker i saw a girl that looked about 14. no way she was 21, however, i saw tons of dudes talking to her. you just get that false sense of security in a place like a bar or casino

It's quite the conundrum.

Crazy females are the Tilt a Whirl of the sex game but the experience comes with great risk.

(Someone write that down)

Wasn't there a guy in Baton Rouge who took an underage girl home from the bar, and even made her show him her ID, which said that she was of age, but was fake? I seem to recall a thread on the OTL.

Crazy if that's the case. The guy in question was showing beyond due diligence wanting to see the ID.

That's a case of a guy that needs to be let walk and a girl that needs her arse kicked by her parents.

this is strange

I mean she has underwear on.

Does that mean that if she is on a beach in a bikini that everyone that sees her needs to be arrested?

I do. They never met. They never had sex. There was never any contact between them. That's not a sexual offense. That's a verbiage offense. He should not be tainted as a sex offender for talking to someone and receive underwear pics.

Sex offender registries, IMO, should not be public. Registering with law enforcement is one thing, but a public registry is ridiculous. Especially now that they are used for everything from the most heinous of sex crimes to peeing outside.

To my knowledge, these are not enforced in my jd when it involves two willing participants. Explaining that to one of the party's parents always makes for a fun time. I allegedly have knowledge of some statutory rapes being knocked down to sexual misconduct when involving two obvious willing parties on the edge of the age elements.

The police and prosecutors typically treat bra and panties more seriously than bikini, due to the "sexual context" of underwear.
