Most of Rome's building was done by soldiers. They didn't trust slaves that much. As NC said they did use the Jews and others gold to pay for it all.

It’s ignorant to think that there hasn’t been many more white slaves throughout history than blacks. Not only has there been way more whites but they were enslaved for far longer than the blacks. Black slavery in the USA is just a blip on the radar compared to what has happened to whites.

Yes, the wife (no pics) and I went that last November. Lovely and incredibly fascinating place (and riding at the front of the top part of a double-decker tour bus is like riding a Disney thrill ride because of how they zip through those narrow streets). According to most historians it was built by anywhere from 20k-60k Jewish slaves in the decade spanning from 70AD-80AD. Not only that but it was also funded with the spoils from Rome's sacking of Jerusalem.

It was so far back in the past, I think that not only do they not GAF but that if anyone tried to make them GAF then those folks would get their shite pushed in with the quickness. While they understand their past and aren't particularly proud of the cruelty committed by Roman rulers, they are very proud of the beauty produced throughout their history.
Most importantly though, around 10-12% of Italy's GDP is from tourism. Some ANTIFA asshats showing up to try tearing down the Colosseum would be seen -at the very least- as endangering tons of jobs (not necessarily from just the Colosseum but rather from that being seen as the beginning of a movement to tear down pretty much everything).
