The Civil War was primarily about slavery.

Just saw a tweet by Tbird and wanted to take a gauge of the board on this.

If it was primarily about slavery then the yankees wouldn't have waited till after the war to free their slaves.

Slavery may have been an ignition issue; but much deeper was the fight against the idea of giving an all powerful group of people in one city (Washington DC) total power over all aspects of the States.
How’s that been working out lately?
The federal government was ONLY supposed to have dominion over what was explicitly spelled out in the constitution and nothing else. The “checks and balances” against them or any one group becoming too powerful was supposed to be a State’s threat of saying “frick that” and either just ignoring the Fed or leaving to go it on their own. The ending of the Civil War in practice nullified the 10th amendment… after that we’d go on to lose state selection of senators, congress would claim defacto authority by controlling the lion’s share of government finances, and we’re even about to lose the election process to the federal government.

The articles of secession by various Southern states would seem to confirm that slavery was the primary (but not sole) reason for the war

Does he not post here anymore?

Not so much about "The" slaves but more about new states and territories that would be "slave states". Even that was not a primary reason for northern aggression.

It was the most American of wars. Poor people dying over rich people’s disagreements then being blamed for it.

This is correct. It was about slavery.

I won’t be absolutist here but that’s like saying us entering WW2 was about fighting Nazis, climate change policy is about helping the environment and the hostile takeover of our institutions by the woke is about fighting systemic racism. There’s many more examples.
That blanket statement should perk your ears at least. I’m sure some useful idiot Yankees believed it to be true and was a rallying cry to justify their involvement.

I have heard that the southern states, felt that they were being bullied by the north. It's a states rights issue, more than a slavery issue. So I've read. I'm certainly not an expert.

It was primarially about slavery. The "states rights" shite was the democrats rewriting history just like they they did with the myth of the "southern switch" of the 1970s to blame their racist policies on the republicans.
The ignorant southners bought the states right shite and the blacks and self hating whites bought the southern switch
well, now here we are.

They won and now we are all slaves

Primarily slavery. Also state rights. And hating a bunch of yankees, which I understand. I hate most folks on both coasts currently. But hard to claim slavery wasn't the biggest single issue.

Slavery was abolished in the north well before the war.
ETA. I will as however that a lot of people in the north were still profiting from the slave trade.

There were three things that drove the civil war..
1) Slavery: for the wealthy, plantation owners, and producers.
2) States rights: for the people not wealthy but was sick of the Washington ruling class looking down on the south and shoving their will on the less represented.
3) Invasion and protection of their land: for the people who were poor and the only thing they had was their land and their few head of livestock… that would be taken by the Union Army as they went through.
#3 supplied the bulk of the soldiers for the war and it’s not close.
There is a Bible entry that is preserved from my great, great, great grandmother’s Bible (that is readable online from the Tishomingo County, MS archives) that stated she brought the farm’s mule in the house at night to keep Union soldiers from stealing it. Probably from my 3x great grandfathers request right after Shiloh. He was in Forrest’s Calvary at Shiloh and probably got word over after the battle and Fallen Timbers.
