We are living in the age of "whatabouts." The national interest in this case is all because "what about Zimmerman" and "what about Rittenhouse." It doesn't matter if you personally think that this case shouldn't be compared with Rittenhouse and/or Zimmerman, because enough people have decided and are already dug in.

Unfortunately, whatabouts cut both ways. January 6th happens. "What about the George Floyd rioting." Trump talks about grabbin' by the pussy. "What about Bill Clinton."

From a moral framework, we are paralyzed by whatabouts, and whatabouts are an incredibly shitty way to make an argument. For one, it changes the subject. For two, it creates the ol' infamous "two wrongs make a right" argument.

Whatabouts sucks.

Unfortunatley in our time, the amount of socially acceptable cognitive dissonance (completely ignoring the plain truth despite video and pictures) is high enough that this will be a riot-worthy event anyway, and quite a lot of democrats will excuse or encourage such.
