Where are you located. I live in SE Denton County and we haven't experienced an outage yet.

12 degrees was our high today, btw.

Obtw, I just talked to a Reliant representative and they said that anybody with a contract rate will still get that same rate. It's the month-to-month people who are going to have sticker shock.

People who’s been using Griddy are getting crushed right now.

I had never heard of Griddy before today, but any variable-rate or market-rate scenario is probably going to be kind of rough.

Entergy's incompetent management has had me without power for more than 12 hours now with no end in sight.

The "good" news is that, at least in DFW, the low temp will bottom out tonight thru Tuesday morning (Tuesday morning's low is forecast at 3 degrees where I am. It was 5 degrees this morning). Mid-day Tuesday through Thursday afternoon/evening will be 20-25 or so.

Then one more really cold night Thursday, with Friday morning's low predicted to be 8 degrees. After that, we will get back to normal this weekend.

I don’t understand what everyone’s talking about. It’s 80 degrees here in Florida. Is it unusually cold in Texas or something?

Twitter is going nuts. Everyone pissed it seems.

Blaming Gov. Abbot, green energy, deregulation.
Those people in multi-hour blackouts probably aren’t in a controlled outage, but rather in a zone that has lost power due to the weather and it has yet to be repaired.

They are all Mississippi power, alabama power, and Georgia power supposed to be tied to the PSC for rate changes. However they all work together under the Southern Company umbrella but the shortage isn't hitting the southeast like it has Texas so shouldn't be a worry at this time.

Yes, it's unusually cold. We almost never have single-digit temperatures. Before the middle of last week the lowest temp this winter was something like 27 degrees, and we only had a couple of mornings like that.

I only had to drip water 2-3 nights all Winter, and by the time this is over it will be 10-11 straight days of dripping the faucets.

Very unusual cold spell for Texas.

I use Energy Ogre and they lock in rates for a year at a time with competing electric companies. I pay Energy Ogre $10 a month to take care of finding me the lowest electrical rate each year. ABSOLUTE best money I spend on utilities.

Why anyone would trust their energy needs to this guy is beyond me.

Sorry, first thing I think of when you guys mention that.

Only East Mississippi is the Southern Co. Most of Ms is Entergy. And yes; PSC controls rate hikes.

I’m south of Houston and our power went out at 5:30 this morning and it’s still out....we have a 3 year old and a 1 year old....we are covered in blankets...hopefully the power comes back on soon...starting to get colder in the house.....I guess if it doesn’t we will be out in my truck with the heater on

Get a "Buddy" RV heater (and a carbon monoxide detector before I get yelled at) and 2-20# propane tanks. You could keep a typical master bedroom at 100 degrees for 3 days if you wanted to. For a 200 dollar investment. The lack of simple preparedness in this country is mind boggling.

You can also buy an adaptor that refills the 16 oz Coleman canister from a 20lb bottle.

I just got a text from entergy about limiting usage so they don’t have to limit power, until the grid is back fully online.

I just want to make sure we won’t see 4-5 dollar per kWh bullshite I can’t pay that

I have one of those heaters and the refill adapter.

I also have a portable generator so I’ll be ok in a power outage

A little Texas history lesson. I know, History is "old stuff" and nobody cares about it.

I almost pulled the trigger on a whole house generator but couldn't decide between diesel, NG or propane.
