I'd hate to be a parent or student in the Lone Star State

This is the same state where then governor Ann Richards opposed teaching Spanish in public schools because "if English was good enough for Jesus, it's good enough for Texas school children"

Why? Stay involved with your kids education and the point is moot.

On Wednesday, the board voted along party lines to reinstate most of the language the committee wanted gone, requiring students to learn about the complexity of cells, the origin of life and abrupt appearance and stasis in fossil records

I'm an athiest, and a biology grad, and none of this bothers me. They are not teaching creationism.

Some of the Democratic board members suggested that the move would invite teachings of creationism or intelligent design into the classroom.

We love our slippery slope arguments, don't we?

Evolution is just a theory. I see no problem with this whatsoever.

I will never understand the sheer jealousy and hatred liberals have over Texas. It's the best state in the country to work, raise a family and have an optimal quality of life.

The Texas BOE has long been a joke, but this actually isn't that big a deal. It was basically a semantics compromise to placate all the Bible thumpers on the local education boards. In practice in doesn't result in any serious classroom challenge to evolution.

People who don't believe in evolution shouldn't be so worried about having descended from monkeys as being overtaken by them.

Jealousy?

I pity the state. I would hate to live anywhere in the state except for Austin

It says that they are still teaching evolution theory. They are just adding curriculum offering different theories. That's a good thing. It forces students to be critical of all theories posted (which means poor AGW frickers are losing their grip).

The issue is not whether different theories different, opposing theories are being included. The issue is WHAT are the alternative theories? That's what I want to know and that's all I care about.

This may actually be a good thing for evolutionists (which I somewhat accept). If Texas is going to start teaching nonsense about the earth being only 6000 years old compared to other theories (supported by evidence) kids are going to learn really fast that some theories are bullshite and others may be questionable, but are far more likely.

In other words, if this is the Jesus Nazi right trying to indoctrinate, it could seriously backfire.

Austin blows, it's a city of a million people with roadways designed for 250k and has an unjustifiably high cost of living.

Most of Texas is fantastic though as far as cost of living, job opportunities, sports, entertainment, etc.

As long as they use that disclaimer, I have no problem with them mentioning evolution. Just be honest though.
