That's the only way term limits has a chance. Only applies to newly elected.

They will never vote themselves out.

Only way this happens is with a constitutional convention or a revolution.

Term limits on federal offices by the states have been struck down before while recalls of federal officials have been denied without being outright ruled on (Senator Frank Church (D-ID) was subject to attempts which were killed in court).

It’s better than what we have now.

I am for two Senate terms max and five House terms Max.

Term limits, along with strict lobby reform and legislation to reduce or eliminate insider trading by congressional members is probably something +80% of Americans would agree with. The fact our grifter politicians avoid these reforms like the plaque should absolutely infuriate their constituents.

Or a constitutional amendment. I believe it is a strong enough issue to be used by a candidate as their platform for election. In the very least, people must demand this.

Nothing changes with the same ol' same ol'.

Why would politicians vote themselves less power? The only way term limits will happen, is a convention of states.

Amendment will require the House, Senate, and states to ratify IIRC.

That ain’t happening.

Nope.

1) People who vote democrat will NEVER vote for term limits. Their masters won't let them, and they enjoy the current state of things.
2) Suburban women are too fricking stupid to understand why term limits would be a good thing.
3) The GOPe are just as fervently opposed to this as the Democrats.
4) The only people that want this, are America first patriots. So maybe 5% of politicians. There is no political will for this to get done.
5) The only possible way this EVER happens, is through a convention of states. And that has about as much chance to happen as Trump overturning the 2020 election.

The real term limits need to be on the bureaucrats and lobbying laws in all honesty.

The only chance you have is a convention of the states to add it to the constitution. Term limits I think is one thing that enough states would be on board with to actually get it going

nope, wont work because its about power and control, and with term limited newcomers they have no power and control over them because they cant offer anything under the table to keep them in power and get them re-elected so no power to control them through bribes

While I agree that we absolutely need term limits, your plan is flawed from the get-go.

The entrenched politicians are the ones who need to go. Your plan basically gives them a free pass. We'd have to wait for them to retire (which they almost never do), get voted out (doesn't happen very often, especially in the Senate), or die (again, doesn't happen often enough).

Our only hope is that we get good election reform and vote the frickers out.

There's nothing more scary for a politician than to get a real job.

Restore a modified 17th Amendment so that Senators again sever at the pleasure of the state legislatures as it was originally intended. Modify it so that if the state legislature is deadlocked, the selection is pushed to popular election for a limited span of time.

The only way they will pass it is if a grass roots movement is so big that they are afraid a constitutional amendment will become a reality.

I've said it before, but I think term limits should be Donald Trump's new border wall. He spoke on and on ad nauseum about a border wall in 2016, and it rallied the troops. He should do the same about term limits. This would get bi-partisan support from much of the Democrats base. Media would be asking Democrats politicians as well as Republicans if they support term limits.

IMO, only Trump has the ability to make this a transcendent issue that takes on a life of it's own.

Big, beautiful Term Limits. Whenever politicians complain about it, he'll tell them that the limit just got 2 years shorter...

The problem is that there are no term-limits on the deep state apparatchiks.

A constitutional amendment is the way to go, using Art V of the Constitution: The states control the whole amendment process, and Congress cannot stop it. The state legislatures pick the topics, then select, authorize, instruct and supervise the delegates.

The process has already started, see LINK /
