United Parcel Service workers represented by the Teamsters voted Friday by a 97% margin to authorize a strike, which would be the biggest for a single employer in United States history.
The union vote now sets a seven-week countdown until worker contracts expire on July 31. If an agreement between the union and the company isn’t reached by then, the workers could begin striking the following day, a move that would have enormous economic consequences.
quote:
“This vote shows that hundreds of thousands of Teamsters are united and determined to get the best contract in our history at UPS,” Teamsters General President Sean O’Brien said. "If this multibillion-dollar corporation fails to deliver on the contract that our hardworking members deserve, UPS will be striking itself.”
quote:
The union, which represents more than 340,000 workers, is touting the 97% vote as giving it “maximum leverage” to negotiate with UPS in the coming weeks.
quote:
A strike would also put President Joe Biden, who has described himself as the most pro-union president in history, in a difficult position politically.
Biden, who already has low economic approval ratings, would be pressured to intervene to prevent further damage to the economy and supply chains, but doing so could threaten crucial blue-collar union support heading into what is expected to be a tight 2024 presidential election.

You should probably give them AC in their trucks

What are they whining that they need from UPS?

Teamsters have been on a roll, they have received over $50 billion the past several years, the bulk of that money during the illegitimate regime's COVID19 relief money handout from US taxpayers to fund their union negotiated pensions.

UPS workers are among the most entitled in the world.

Personally know two dudes who retired from Teamster union jobs....both are drawing pensions of over $4k/month, under age 62.

You can't exactly blame them for feeling emboldened, when you have a president who, anytime he ever says anything about the economy, has to throw in some stupid line about his unwavering unyielding "support for union workers."
It's going to put him in quite a pickle when they choose to grind everything in this country to a halt until UPS meets their demands.

Lately FedEx has been better than UPS in my area. I mean our addresses are on our houses, is it that hard to cross reference the house number and the address on the box when you’re making $70k a year?

UPS moves roughly 6% of US GDP every single day.
I don’t see the gubment letting it happen.
Congress will pass a 60 day EA and force them to continue working and negotiate, imo.

You mean fairly compensated?
You got to love this board sometimes, bitch about how expensive it is to live, bitch about the jobs that actually pay well.

What does this mean?
I get the overall point of people wanting good wages, but unions have been known to take advantage of this

This post doesn't make very much sense.
In the real world, unions increase the price of projects dramatically compared to open shop. Upwards of 25-35% increase.

But have they located Jimmy Hoffa yet?

Sounds like nonsense.
If UPS are doing 6% of GDP, what are Amazon or USPS doing?

They are about to put Yellow Freight out of business too.
