I don't consider the government detaining people who are not committing crimes to be protecting anyone.

you don't want citizens to protect themselves.

What are you referencing? I don't care how anyone protects themselves from actual threats.

People break all kinds of laws every day without facing any consequences. I didn't say anything about "ignoring" laws. I don't support federal agents patrolling suburbs and cities demanding to see papers.

you know damn well you'd disarm people if you had the chance.

I have never advocated for this.

LOL...."before" Yeah, none of those have ever been bunk.(niteclub doorman cramps from laughing)

We have illegals killing people driving semis w documents showing the have a "cdl license"

Do you think they got into cdl classes without a fake normal license?

Sounds like a nice lady that your family cares about...but your method of proving she's legal is seriously flawed.

Let me hel a bit...

SHES STAYING INSIDE HER HOME BECAUSE SHE FEELS UNSAFE OF ICE!
A legal would be so damn happy to show credentials, she'd wear it on a lanyard around her neck!

Sounds like she outstanding her permission or hasn't followed up on steps to stay legit.

Sorry man

My apologies then. See how easy it is to shrug off an unwarranted accusation? Relay this to your housekeeper.

I've never tried to prove she's legal. I honestly don't care. She's a very, very nice lady with three daughters and a husband. She's not a threat to anyone.

I've never tried to prove the citizenship status of anyone I know ever. That's just not something I have the bandwidth for.

Very naive take. It's like when someone gets pulled over for speeding, and they end up with a seatbelt ticket, expired brake tag ticket, etc. on top of the speeding ticket. LEO have a way of finding reasons to punish or detain people they want to punish or detain.

The blind trust extended to the government here is really concerning, especially considering the government's track record.

You consider stop and frisk to be "good police work?"

Yes, IMHO both Profiling and Stop and Frisk are good police work. I know that SCOTUS has disagreed with me on this, but, IMHO, the reason for that is related to my opinion that the USA will continue to trend Leftist/Socialist until it on one fine future day become a Radical Leftist Totalitarian Regime.

The Left conquered the US Judiciary many decades ago and Leftist political power remains consolidated in the US Judiciary.

How can your Third Way work? You say that nobody should be examined until the Govt has credible evidence that this person is illegal. I'm not sure how that could work, since, people don't display obvious signs of their legal status.

This is a good question, though. What is the best Third Way?

You ARE on here advocating that immigration law be ignored / resisted.

quote:

What are you referencing? I don't care how anyone protects themselves from actual threats.

I'm referencing the fact that the last admin allowed a flood of immigrants into the country, and now that they're here, you want ICE to not enforce the law. If you support not screening people at the border, then not investigating once they're here...who will protect citizens?

quote:

What are you talking about?

I want to know what OTHER laws you believe we can ignore. You're ignoring immigration law, after all. As I understand it, we don't get to choose which laws we can follow. Maybe you know something that I don't.

quote:

People break all kinds of laws every day without facing any consequences. I didn't say anything about "ignoring" laws. I don't support federal agents patrolling suburbs and cities demanding to see papers.

So how are the illegals supposed to be removed? You don't want the law enforced, you want them to stay with zero consequences...are you even REMOTELY FAMILIAR with human nature?

quote:

I have never advocated for this

I'll concede that you haven't mentioned it here, but given your liberal worldview, I'd be shocked if that wasn't your position. But if you won't support the government to uphold the law, don't be surprised if someone takes the law into their own hands. I don't support vigilantism, but it would certainly be an interesting defense if an accused based it on the "the government failed to uphold the law, no one was left to defend me but me."

I’m of Mexican heritage and was running the skreets of New Orleans all last week…didn’t see ICE or BORTAC at the Roosevelt, R&O’s, or Delacroix (great fried fish collars btw), or the movie theater in Elmwood.

Maybe they’ll get me come Christmas time at the family dinner at Herbsaint.

So one of your kids is missing. Witness saw a white male mid 40's get the kid into a red 4 door car and drive away. Would you want the cops to stop any and all mid 40's white males in red 4 door cars? Maybe even EVERY red 4 door car. Or would your position stay the same and the cops shouldn't stop anyone unless they KNEW the child was inside? Afterall, if the cops stop 25 white males in red 4 door cars and find your child, it is likely that they "wrongly" detained 24 looking for him.

It wouldn't bother me at all to be questioned, if I've done nothing wrong.

Ok. Fine.

But to be fair, I, as a tax paying citizen, need to be able to break some laws without consequence too. Any ones off the top of your head that would be good ones to start with?

While you are entitled to your opinion, the law doesn't see it that way. I'll ask you, for the sake of spirited discussion, what laws do you believe we're allowed to "dismiss", on our own opinions? And suppose my list is different from yours? Who "wins" in that situation?

If you want to change immigration law, by all means, contact your Congressional representative and start the process. But if you're advocating that we get to pick and choose...that's not gonna work.
