Laurence Tribe
@tribelaw
What do you call a system in which 41 Republican Senators, representing just 21% of the population, can stop voting rights legislation backed by 70% of Americans?
How about “broken”?

There is something terribly wrong with a system that allows 41 Senate Republicans representing 21% of the country to block voting rights legislation supported by nearly 70% of Americans. The filibuster must go.

If 41 Republican senators representing just 21% of the country can filibuster voting rights supported by 70% of Americans, then we don’t live in a democracy or a republic. We live in an oligarchy

Good morning and Happy Thursday to everyone who is part of the 70% of Americans who support passing the voting rights act and carving out the filibuster to get it done
Love how they just make numbers up.
Biden’s approval is in the tank no way 70% of even Democrats support this bs

The Dems always characterize any situation that they don’t 100% control as a unfair problem.

Bicameral legislature.
The entire point of it is that the House covers the population while the Senate represents the states. And Tribe fricking knows it.

1) most people support voter id laws
2) they picked 41 senators from specific states so they can use the 21% number
3) authoritarians want mob rule so they can use Marxist methods of getting closer and closer to socialism
At least they aren’t hiding it any longer

Was Tribe the leader of this talking point?
Posted on 10/21/21 at 7:57 am to NashvilleTider
This started when a simple majority couldn’t censure Trump in the Senate.
These people don’t understand their federal government because they weren’t taught how it’s supposed to work.

They can’t even get a simple majority because their own party isn’t in lockstep over this.
They control 50 Senate seats plus Heels Up. If they want to push something through reconciliation, they can do it if they bribe Manchin enough.
An inability to get your whole caucus to vote for something is not the opposition’s fault.

I don't know what do you call only having 32% of Americans disapprove of the direction the country is going in?

But yeah. Thsi shite isn't supported by 70% of Americans either. To claim so is dumb

“70%” comes from the media asking “Do you like free shite?” without giving the context of who is getting it and how much it will actually cost you.
Most giveaways tend to be to the poorest of the poorest of the poor or the richest of the rich, either to get votes foe one side or to reward donors.
The middle gets fricked whenever they do this.

Correct. We don't live in a democracy and never have. And obviously this person doesn't know what a constitutional republic is.
Posted on 10/21/21 at 8:08 am to NashvilleTider
It’s called the Constitution and it’s about state’s rights in a system where La. and California are equally represented in the Senate.
Each state gets two votes no matter what.

Not surprised
