I pray for their safe return but they belong at the end of the US citizen line if you're creating one. It reminds me of those idiots hiking the mountains over there and getting picked up by Iran. Get home safe but I'll be much more worried for people who have been in Afghanistan for years (and their Afghan colleagues) than for a group who flew into the reasonably foreseen shitshow.

I'm not sure of the logistics to pull this off, but here is what needs to happen when this is over. The family and friends here in the US of Americans who end up getting left in Afghanistan need to come forward with a list of names. Be it a website, an 800-number hotline, whatever. I guarantee you if someone were to spearhead a project like that the number of Americans that were ACTUALLY stranded over there will be staggering compared to the number our government tells us.

Blinken failed to speak up in Cabinet meetings to demand that State Department staff be evacuated before the U.S. military closed Bagram.
He left staff behind.

What a snide and insensitive comment to make by the president. This just demonstrates the attitude this administration has had towards the whole debacle.

Part of the joint statement from the two Congressmen who flew to Kabul:
quote:
"After talking with commanders on the ground and seeing the situation here, it is obvious that because we started the evacuation so late, that no matter what we do, we won't get everyone out on time, even by September 11," the lawmakers, both of whom are veterans, said in a joint statement. "Sadly and frustratingly, getting our people out depends on maintaining the current, bizarre relationship with the Taliban."
"Washington should be ashamed of the position we put our service members in, but they represent the best in America," they said in the statement. "These men and women have been run ragged and are still running strong. Their empathy and dedication to duty are truly inspiring."

Sadly…no one in Congress is going to do anything. They’ll huff and puff, hold a few hearings and point fingers, but NOTHING will be done.
frick every politician in this country.

wow…
@PentagonPresSec
just admitted the “mission centers around “protecting the airport” not rescuing all Americans in Afghanistan “who want to get home”. By this, they’re equating “being near the airport/getting yourself there”
to “wanting to go home”.

I asked President Biden what he will do if Americans are still in Afghanistan after the 8/31 deadline.
His response: “You’ll be the first person I call.”
Took no questions.

Any intelligent person could see their word parsing on this. Every American left behind will be described as someone that didn’t want to come home. Are we going to be subjected to videos of Americans being killed by taliban only for a short while, or are we going to get videos of their enslavement for an extended time? Thanks, Biden.

Biden and his whole team don't give two fricks if US citizens die in Afghanistan. You could run non-stop footage of Americans getting their heads cut off, and the administration's response would be "So what?"

Of course you do. You're a true believer.
I'm sure you think what's happening right now is all Trumps fault, right?

The mood on the streets is definitely changing. I got a few groceries and gas and there was a group of people outside the gas station and talking about the mess that the potato has got us jammed up over and they were hopping mad as I am. I have not seen that ever before.
For them to not know how many we have over there should be enough for us to storm DC but we are too used to our coddled way of life.
