The US Gov't has zero idea how many americans were able to get out because some of them found their way out via other foreign countries. Especially since this so-called "orderly evacuation" has been nothing short of mimicking an organized Portland protest.

We’ve been telling American citizens to leave for months and to do so without expectation of help from the US government because of the security situation. The withdrawal date has been known for months.
Where do you think the disconnect is?

You had the Embassy telling people to leave, and you had the rest of the Administration telling people that there was no imminent risk to Kabul. I started to throw the State Department in with the Embassy, but even their messaging, outside of direct Embassy communications, was a mixed bag.
There was zero coordination and zero planning past "Hey, you may want to consider leaving, but no big rush."
