None of the state dept desk jockeys working hard at their desk does a thing unless they figure out a way to get those people who want to leave into the airport.
The US military is the only people who can get that done. They need to let the military do whatever it takes to solve that issue.

That was a pretty fluid situation.
What Somalia has in common with the current situation in Afghanistan is an incompetent Democrat administration trying to score political points with lives. In Somalia, Clinton wanted to get overly aggressive for no well-defined reason. That's fine, but he also didn't resource it properly. So, aggressive, in a half-assed way.
We sort of have the other side of the coin here. It's fine to accelerate/change things, if it is done in a reasonable, well thought out and, most importantly, well resourced manner. This is incompetent, poorly resourced passivity for passivity's sake.
This is the equivalent of the French Army in June 1940 just saying, "frick it, that's it."
No good can come of such incompetent meddling. If you're an incompetent cook, STAY THE frick OUT THA KITCHEN!

The Mirror (UK)
This report confirms two things:
1. British SAS are on the ground in Kabul
2. Their US counterparts may be on the ground in Kabul and are working with the SAS
This backs up the shift in wording/phrasing we heard from generals yesterday who went from "US troops are going to Kabul to secure the airport" to "US troops are on the ground in Kabul". This is at least a bit encouraging.
It also draws into question who, within the chain of command, gave the go-ahead for this? It doesn't jive with anything we have heard from the Biden Administration.

EXCLUSIVE: Undercover special forces teams on the ground in Afghanistan are in a race against time as fears grow the Taliban will take control of Kabul airport as people try desperately to flee to country
quote:
The Mirror has learned an SAS team was deployed undercover deep inside Kabul on a hazardous mission to try and rescue Brits cowering from the Taliban manhunt.
It is believed the special forces operatives were joined by US operators and two Afghan interpreters who are among those hoping to escape Kabul for fear of Taliban reprisals.

Saying the US is untrustworthy is crap and is infuriating.
We’ve betrayed the Kurds, the Cubans, the Iranians, the people of Hong Kong and Xinjiang, Afghanistan, and within a few months Taiwan. We are untrustworthy.

I knew a lady that was in Egypt during the Arab Spring. She was working for a non-gov't/travel company.
The US Gov't asked for ALL Americans to evacuate. Thankfully, her company provided the employees with security and transportation to the Airport (since the Gov't wouldn't do that).
She stayed at the airport for hours and then was transported to Turkey.
The fricked UP thing that I didn't think about. The US Gov't only got them to a third country they didn't get them back to the US.
This lady had to pay for a flight from Turkey to the US (Once again; this travel company stepped up and paid for all of the flights).
Then a few months later; the US Gov't sent her a fricking bill to pay for her own evacuation from Egypt to Turkey. If she didn't pay it, it would have been added to her Tax bill.
I always thought that would be Tax payers money when any American gets evacuated. Obviously not.
