Yeah, the same Afghan Army that everyone with a brain knew would fold like a fricking cheap tent.

It's both logistical and mostly political.
We knew this was going to happen but we also needed to pretend that we were going to leave that stuff for the ANA to be able to fight the taliban

Are you going to explain why?

It's supposed to be cheaper to leave it than to ship it back. But I think they usually scrap it or destroy it to prevent it going to the enemy.
Article from 2014 when we were going to get out of Afghanistan (haha). LINK

How much "stuff" is the United States military leaving behind as it withdraws from Afghanistan after 12 years of war? Try some $6 billion worth.
quote:
Ultimately, some 170 million pounds of vehicles, equipment and "white gear" -- that's all the non-military stuff that contractors have been using, like furniture, generators, chemical toilets, air conditioners, non-classified computers and more -- are being left behind. What they cannot, or will not, donate or sell to the Afghans or to allies is being destroyed so that it doesn't rot in place or fall into Taliban hands. Some reports indicate that most of the $6 billion worth of materiel will indeed be sold for scrap or thrown in the junkyard. Pentagon officials would not confirm that, but consider this: in the month of February alone, Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Disposition Services sold 34.7 million pounds of scrap from its own vehicles and equipment to local Afghan vendors, according to figures provided to FoxNews.com. And in the past 12 months, the agency sold 387 million pounds of scrap, sending $46.5 million back to the U.S. Treasury.

each MRAP is about $520,000 FYI

Each piece of equipment has a computer chip device used as a locator that we will go back and target. Expensive but maybe effective.
Ok nevermind. No way Biden would think to do anything so clever.

It's a tax write-off.
But seriously they probably wanted to upgrade our gear and this gives our government an excuse to write the military another blank check.

Are we going to sell them support contracts?

Remember this when you're filing your taxes next year.

If I was an Army Mechanic I probably would have destroyed the motors on those things prior to leaving

China will get their hands on this stuff.

To be fair, Trump would've left all that stuff too

They have to make it look like Trump didn't achieve peace in the middle east, so when these screw-ups lead to the Taliban taking Afghanistan it will all be blamed on him.

Don't forget that we had been there for nearly 20 years with very little progress made.

I didn’t say it was a good idea. In fact it’s was fricking stupid. Anyone with walking around sense knew Afghanistan would fall within weeks of the US pulling out.
But as to why all that gear is there, that’s why. We left it to try to prop of the Afghan army. If you look in the first pic, you can see what appear to be a red crescent on the side of a hummer ambulance. That shows those vehicles are (or were) Afghan Army.

Specifically, that is your good ole US Army doing what they do best right there, suck.
Bigger picture, that's the Pentagon.
Lastly, that's the Biden Admin.
But make no mistake, this is a crystal clear picture of how bad the US Army is. It's the shittiest branch of service that receives much more funding than the Marines.
And the Pentagon doesn't give a shite because hey, it's your money, not theirs.
It's a story/event like this where we miss Colonel David Hackworth.

Well, isn't that a surprise.

Definitely dumb to leave that around but I guess was more expensive to transport back than to just leave it. At the very least we should have blown all of that up though, just leaving it intact and lying around like this seems irresponsible as hell
