IDK about the airport, but there are other civilian and military forces that are presumed to be still on the ground.
France, Germany, UK, UAE, Turkey, Canada....just to name a few.

Absolutely! If they find out they were sold down the river they are going to be beyond furious. If you think the situation is chaotic on the ground now that will cause a total panic. No. Getting that number with this chaos is likely impossible. Even if it was known, they wouldn't tell you.

I've believed this is the biggest threat to our mission for a while now. The humanitarian aspect is a giant international relations clusterfrick with explosive potential.
It also reaches far beyond today. We are setting china up nicely in that region.

Can you imagine the stress of keeping all US force members under tab? I know headcount or whatever you want to call it is priority number 1 in the military, but imagine if a US service member got left behind. Got some nervous butts somewhere.

They weren't hiding. There were a bunch of them that were literally grabbing onto the side of the plane and holding on for dear life. They wanted out of there that badly.
There is a very good twitter video of them trying to hang on to the sides of what looks like a USAF C-17. There just wasn't room for them on the inside.

Particularly when you go from 2,500 troops in the entire country to around 7,000 in one city within the span of three days.
