My parents contract does not allow the district to suspend their pay in this scenario. They are still having to work (as school has been cancelled for the year but assignments are still being sent out and graded), but obviously nowhere near the amount they were pre-shutdown.

My wife's retired teacher, worked hard and long hours.

Only union is in LR. None of us are union. Plus Arkansas is Right to Work.

I'm retired and it would seem to me the first persons jobs to be affected by an economic turmoil should be government employees. To use your philosophy in a roundabout way the government is not in the money making business, just the money spending business so let'd put a check on those, the government, who is spending money.

Then your excuse of having a contract doesn't mean doodly. You don't think there aren't people in private business who haven't had their pay lowered or even suspended on account there is no income in that business presently even though they have a contract ?

Guess you have never heard of the NEA.

Most teachers have their 9 months of work paid out over 12 months. So not paying them for the summer would be not paying them for work they've already done

I'm pretty sure it was said in jest.

Teachers’ 9 month contract is spread over 12 months so they can have money in the summer months. It’s not money they get for nothing. It’s more like a delayed compensation of sorts.

Our school gave my children two weeks of busy work three weeks ago and I haven’t heard back reference new assignments. We tried to reach out to one of my daughter’s teachers for clarification on an assignment and she didn’t return the text or our voice mail. I don’t see where they are “working” any.
What district are you in because this sounds like bullshite or you're sending your kids to a low rated school.

I have a contract
I am still working
I’m still providing education
I’m still required to check in daily with supervisors
I’m still required to see my students
I’m still required to be on campus daily
For them to not pay me or suspend my pay is wage theft. You may want to try to know facts before you spout bull.

Some of them do. My daughter teaches kids with severe autism; very few people could do her job. Regular teachers, teaching Karen and Chad's offspring about the American Revolution? Nah.

I bitch about teachers often. This is one fight I won't get into. They deserve to be paid.

I forgot how jealous this board is of teachers attorneys unions and physicians at times

There will be layoffs, bigger class sizes, furloughs, and other budget cuts in the future of nearly every school district in this country.

Sooooo...
you would rather have teachers collecting unemployment based on losing pay for a month. You do realize that the "pay" during the summer months is simply their already earned money being doled out to them by their respective district. It seems rather pointless but whatever floats your boat.

I've seen pure fricking stupidity on this board before, but you take the cake.
Or do you simply have no clue that all children are entitled to a free public education by law? That right isn't suspended because of a virus. Schools are still doing that online

Education needs a massive overhaul in our country, that's for damn sure.
