The U.S. Supreme Court Friday rejected Virginia Democrats’ emergency request to revive a voter-approved plan that would have allowed the state to redraw its congressional map in response to Republican gerrymanders in other states.
The decision leaves in place a bombshell ruling from the Virginia Supreme Court, which threw out the referendum after more than 3 million Virginians voted on whether to authorize new congressional districts. A majority of voters approved the amendment, but the state Supreme Court ruled 4-3 that the process violated Virginia’s constitutional requirements and declared the vote “null and void.”

It is still amazing that 3 VA justices would vote to allow the referendum to stand. The referendum was blatantly unconstitutional and worded in an intentionally duplicitous manner. To think that one vote stood in the way of something so brazenly illegal being done is crazy.

It doesn’t matter if they did or not. The courts ruled that the VA constitution laid out a very specific process to redraw the district which included an election of delegates in the interim. VA democrats ignored the constitution and voting began on delegates an entire month before the VA legislature approved the first step. The courts then ruled the process invalid. The dumbass democrats than appealed to the state Supreme Court and held the second election anyway. The court stepped again and asked democrats what part of his earlier ruling they didn’t understand and invalidated the second election. The VA supreme court then sided with the lower court judge who invalidated the elections
