re: Study: States that raised minimum wage had stronger job growth

It's just like hedge funds that kicked arse in 2010. The states that had idiotic law makers that are approving such things are the same states that got smashed the hardest in the recession. The bounce back might be slightly bigger, but right to work states are still appreciative of all the jobs their shitty legislation sent their way.

How do you min wage increase supporters feel about mandating hire wages for white children of wealthy families who have chosen to earn extra money by flipping burgers in between their summers at prep school?

Left's war on science.

Great news. Walmart will now have to take care of its employees, instead of the taxpayers doing it.

Boom-boom
Its not scientific BUT its true cause we manipulated, opps, we studied that data real hard.

In truth, there is only one way to regard a minimum-wage law: it is compulsory unemployment, period. The law says, it is illegal, and therefore criminal, for anyone to hire anyone else below the level of X dollars an hour. This means, plainly and simply, that a large number of free and voluntary wage contracts are now outlawed and hence that there will be a large amount of unemployment. Remember that the minimum-wage law provides no jobs; it only outlaws them; and outlawed jobs are the inevitable result.

I am a little pessimistic about the minimum wage being raised, but a lot of states are doing it, and I am no economist.
So the question is: why. Why are blue states doing it. Is it, as the study says, that they are betting on these lower-wage earners to turn around and put it right back into the economy?

Blue states are doing it because blue states are mind-bogginly more expensive to live in than red states.

Because the left panders to the poor, and poor people are under the false impression that raising the minimum wage makes most poor people better off.

You don't think we should pander to the poor?
Kiss the wealthy's arse is the opposite option? What to do...

At least it would be honest. Big corporations like McDonald's and Wal-Mart don't mind minimum wage increases because, with economies of scale, they're much better able to handle the cost increases than smaller mom & pop companies. It costs them a little more money with the benefit of less competition/larger market share. The wealthy also easily handle increased costs resulting from the minimum wage increases. Some poor (the ones that don't get laid off) are marginally better off until inflation catches up, the wealthiest are mostly unaffected, and the middle class gets totally fricked by the wage increases.

Amazing that no academic journals have picked up this research, what with its truly impressive methods combined with its revolutionary results.
Edit: Oh.

Of course they are.
It would be more helpful to simply post the info with a link (as the OP did) and let folks discuss it.
Almost ALL growth and knowledge come from "debate" about the issue.
If a theory has merit...it MUST stand up to challenges. Without those challenges, the theory is pretty worthless.
Yes, there will be SOME snarkiness. It happens on each "side". But, the exercise is valid and worthwhile.
I've learned a great deal on here from these types of discussions. And, unless the "learning" took place on a subject that was totally new to me, then the "learning" implies that I was either of limited exposure or simply incorrect. THAT is when the 'challenges' are useful
