If the government demands you shut your business down, they should reimburse you.

Also to get the paperwork and especially get it forgiven you had to prove you kept people on your payroll and paid them appropriately.

The ppp was given out with the knowledge that it would be forgiven if certain requirements were met.

How does this compare with a student loan?

Everyone who got money from the ppe was an employee who would have been laid off because the business wasn't making fricking money because the stupid arse government shut them down for COVID.

This is not true for everyone who received PPP.

People can't pay back their student loans because they were too dumb to get a marketable degree from the liberal arts universities of their dreams that cost them $150,000 to attend over 4 years of sex with ugly people and shitty booze. That's no one's fault but their own.

This is not true of everyone who has a student loan.

Speaking in absolutes is dumb.

What were the criteria for qualifying for PPP that would be forgiven?

What sucks about American politics is that people have a problem with taxpayers giving money to things that don't affect them, but perfectly okay receiving that same "handout" from the government when it's them.
This would be a great point... if only the PPP money went to the borrower's personal expenses. It didn't, so... you're just another well trained parrot. Hope you got a cracker for the post.

So you got to use free money to pay your employees instead of out of pocket? Yeah, tap dance all you want, business owners received a huge windfall compared to the normal blue collar worker

Sure. Use your own money to pay employees while you’re mandated to shutdown by the government. Liberal logic strikes again.

The entire premise of the PPP was to keep people employed while the business was shut down or limited.

The people who got the PPP Loan (and then forgiveness) didn't just keep all that money for themselves. They had to prove that it was used to keep employees on the payroll AND that they paid their employees during that period. Well, at least the ones who didn't commit massive f*cking fraud.

Only 60% of it had to go to payroll expenses to get it forgiven (and that doesn't necessarily mean pay to employees). The other 40% they could simply pocket as revenue.

Personally I'm trying to get a job at this place:
County Agency Inc Brooklyn, NY 24 $10M Employment Placement Agencies

That's an average salary of 250,000 per year for a headhunter agency. Good thing we kept them all well fed during the crisis.

This is a prime example of people having mechanical typing / spelling skills the far out strip their ability to intelligently use them.

Monkey with a typewriter and spellcheck.
