It's all green across the board today. Cry another day.
You must think everyone is a crying liberal. I'm not upset that the stock market is up. The Dow Jones is not the stock market, though. Read the title again.

I love this but this means a whole lot more to boomers than any other voting block and there isn't much that is going to change the minds of that group.

In reality, what does the stock market performing well mean to everyday people?
I'm an everyday person and I only have 6 stocks that I only check at the end of the month. I won't say how much I made in Jan. But in that one month it was more than I ever earned in a year during my 38 years of working. I still have a warm glow about that.

actually jethrine it is, as you can buy any number of mutual funds or etf's that will mimic dollar for dollar the return on the dow and the s&p. in fact with etf's you can buy leveraged shares.
you're a regular financial genius boy!

The fed gov’t via the fed reserve and Congress is artificially inflating the market. The BBB just dumped $4.1 trillion in deficit spending on the market. So yes, it went up.

The majority of everyday people have at least one of an IRA, Roth IRA, 401(k), 457(b), 403(b), etc.

I've yet to grasp the investment in crypto beyond a bit of speculation and portfolio diversification.
Crypto makes no sense in a world where you can use GPUs and electricity for something actually worthwhile.

Moved every last penny of my long terms overseas and it’s nearly doubled the performance of the US markets since Trump took office. I’d advise everyone with a 401k to do the same unless you hate money.
All three of the biggest markets in the US have set records since Trump took over but YOU made more money overseas. You’re a liar or a dumb investor.

Now the liberals say the stock market is bad. But during the Clinton/Obama years it was the best thing ever.

The thing is that there statements from the tech sector's big CEOs that sounds like a slow talk about the current AI algorithm boom perhaps falling short of the 2023-ish hype machine. A lot of what is keeping the stock market strong is speculation in AI, so that is a concern for me. Note, I'm not an AI luddite. There are real useful things these new technologies can do but transformer models are a dead end for artificial general intelligence on their own. So the idea that they will broadly delete large swathes of jobs is unlikely but the level of investment sort of hinges on it pauperizing the white collars.
Compile that with the occasional local news report around here about municipal and state level revenue shortfalls (based on projections) and I think we're already in a recession but don't know it yet. I've seen other suggests that states like Alabama already are in a recession but brief news reports of revenue shortfalls speak to a scale back in consumer spending. This buying frenzy in the markets may be a brief bounce before the real bottoming out begins. My gut feeling is that is probably the case here. A national recession ain't pretty and will be bad for many people but it is probably the quickest path towards ending the decade-long malaise we're in right now.
