Republican State Treasurer John Schroder says he will not run for governor in 2023 if GOP U.S. Senator John Kennedy runs.

“If he runs I will support him and then I’ll just run for re-election to Treasurer. If for some reason he does not run, then I will announce in January that I will seek the governorship in 2023,” Schroder said.

Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser is in the same position, while Attorney General Jeff Landry has already announced and has the endorsement of the Louisiana Republican Party.

“I believe I can do a lot of things that I’ve talked about over my political career in the legislature and as state treasurer with Senator Kennedy,” Schroder said.

Schroder added he and Kennedy have worked closely for many years. Kennedy endorsed him when he ran for Treasurer and the two have similar political philosophies.

He also said the Louisiana Republican Party’s early endorsement of Attorney General Jeff Landry has no bearing on his decision, but he is hoping Kennedy clears the air soon.

Nunguesser has basically said the same thing. Either way, it is not good for Landry. It makes Landry look like the GOPe candidate.

Does it? I was thinking the opposite. What's your thinking?

Honestly IMO Landry should go for Senate if Kennedy vacates. He’s made it clear he’s more interested in firebrand national politics than state administration, and I don’t say that as a jab. I genuinely believe he’s just more talented in that area.

Having an anti-AOC from the Deep South works way better in Congress than in downtown BR.

It's pretty obvious that Kennedy will win the Governors race going away if he wants it. Not sure if he is the best choice and probably is better off just staying in Washington but it's his if he wants it

So now we know that Landry is not the GOPe candidate.

They don’t want anyone who cares about the constitution.

Who out of this group has a better shot at winning?

This. Landry would be good as someone to push back against Leftist agendas in Washington, D.C. He has never really weighed in and shown much interest in state government issues like tax reform, budget reform and prioritization, civil service reform, etc.

Kennedy or Shroeder are the only two I will vote for.

Jeff Landry is a coward, and left us in the mess we have now by failing to run in 19. Every day is a further indictment on what that has resulted in for this state, most recently a prison release board who let out the filth who killed Fr Otis and Ruth Pratts in Covington.

Landry has no balls. Kennedy/Schroeder 2023.

Here how it plays out. Kennedy runs for Gov, Garrett runs for Kennedy's senate seat then Clay runs for Garretts seat.

Huh? The GOP establishment just endorsed him a full year before the election.

I’ll vote for a Republican.

Which one, I’m not sure yet.

They better get their shite together.
Everyone is tired of the limp-wristed, lip service the GOP has been giving the last few years when the citizens needed them to fight.

Kennedy and it's not even close. That's even before you add in that both Nungessor and Schroeder would bow out and endorse Kennedy.

We will all know a lot more by the end of January.

Why? Assuming you mean Higgins. He already has a safe seat.
