Morganza protects Baton Rouge and Bonnie carre protects New Orleans levees. Opening morganza only has a nominal effect in lowering water levels in New Orleans.

Miss will lose the case

I don’t understand this when there are no tributaries between the two

About all I have seen the ACOE do for years is throw up roadblocks around people using their own property.

They won’t do shite that requires actual work on their end.

The river in BR is designed to hold more water than the river in NO. 250,000 cu feet per second more.

Mississippi probably gonna win this fight baws.

This'll be an interesting fight.

Our guys over here get fricked! We want those guys over there to get fricked instead.

It really oughtta be some sort of MMA fight between MS Coast baws and Acadian-area baws.

Let those who stand to lose fight it out and the loser loses.

Plus I'd prolly pay PPV to see it, so there's some circle back revenue to maybe ease the pain?

If there were no levees and no spillways, what would happen to those Mississippi beaches and to the seafood industry?

They’re able to get the land cheap due to the risk involved. They then turn around and use their political influence to mitigate said risk.

The one thing no one has mentioned is the very real possibility that if they open Morganza they may not get the genie back in the bottle. The results of that would be catastrophic

The eng regs result in Bonne Carre opening sooner in a flood. morganza is a last resort

From what I can recall, those regs are dictated by federal statute going all the back to 1927.

Mississippi has to go to Congress, not USACE.

Thats not true.

If you pull enough flow north of BR toward Morganza you dont have to open BC.

River would probably run down by Morgan city. Ms beaches would be like fort Morgan.

Mississippi needs to go ahead and sue Mother Nature then. It isn’t Louisiana’s fault the Ohio basin gets rain.

I disagree with MS. The Morganza has only been fully open once, I believe, and that resulted in 20% of the structure being lost in 1973. The Corp of Engineers worry that once they fully open it, there’s a chance that they could lose the structure and lose control of the MS River. This would divert most river flow away from Baton Rouge and New Orleans and create a new river path straight through Morgan City - could you imagine the human and economic impact!?! It would damn (no pun intended) sure be much more damaging to the country compared to MS’s beaches and fishing losing some money for one season.

MS is screwed in this suit. Without the levees the water would be there anyway . All of this control of the river has been dictated by congress with recommendations from the core. They can’t just change it . Truth of the matter is the river has been getting higher with less flow . That is the biggest problem
