Zerohedge - Pentagon spent $400k on missile to take out $12 balloon

quote:

The intelligence community’s current assessment is that these three objects were most likely balloons tied to private companies, recreation, or research institutions studying weather or conducting other scientific research," Biden said Thursday. But now an Illinois-based hobby group which uses $12 balloons with ham radios for a cheap high-altitude hobby says the object shot down over Yukon Territory on Feb. 11 likely belongs to them. NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden also sees this as the likely scenario...

Our government is run by our BEST MEN AND WOMEN. The bestest.

And there are folks in here still defending this potato and the DOD ... and think we can defeat Russia in a proxy war in Ukraine ...

Enjoy your $12 eggs and 12% annual inflation, plebes...

We have our BEST MEN in this government, the FED, the FDA/CDC, and all other 3 letter agencies ...

There was a report yesterday that their first missile missed it's target so tack that on to the total cost.

I have the urge to release my own pico balloon. Perhaps everyone else in America should, too. Just for the ensuing lulz.

Good point!

Ohhh, you face planted.

What you are missing is what a co-worker told me 40 years ago at the height of the Cold War, "The Russians must really be bad." And they are. Believe it or not, they are way worse than us.

Just like in Afghanistan after our troops were killed. And then 7 kids and 3 adults were killed by a US drone strike on a guy in a truck delivering water.

This story is slowly making it to the national news. After the press conference yesterday, the talking heads were still scratching their heads about what it was.

These balloon enthusiast people ought to do a demonstration and launch a pico balloon on TV so we all can see what Brandon shot down. It was be majorly embarrassing.

Oh how I wish Rush Limbaugh was here for this story. He would get this out to the general public so much faster than anyone else, including Zerohedge or Twitter.

$400k on missile. (didn't they fire 2?)
$40k/hour to fly the jet. (how many were dispatched?)

Plus any recovery costs. Plus plus plus.

I read something else that said they missed the first shot? So maybe $800k for a $12 balloon?

What I love is how we were told just how big some of these were. The size of a car, the size of a bus [my personal favorite was the first, Chinese, who's payload was ... wait for it the size of a jet airliner - sure it was].

I know they weren't all the same, but please - who can't figure out a $12 toy.

It seems kinda messed up that hobbiests could just be releasing balloons regularly up into where air traffic can be

It couldn't be good for an airliner to suck one of those into the intake

I thought they said it was a balloon from a used car lot? How many balloons did they shoot down? Was there a chinamen flying this ballon too?

Not a fan of Biden, but give me a break. He dammed if he doesn’t take out the balloon, and dammed if he does but spends over $1mil. The problem is the average American citizen today is dumber than the average American 60 years ago. If you had any sense of education, you would educate yourself to understand why a missile was used instead of cheap bullets. The balloon the Chinese military sent over was not filled with helium that pops at the prick of a needle. Educate yourself on the facts before starting irrelevant discussion topics.

Here’s a fun fact, America is ranked 27th in the world in education, but ranked #1 in bullshittery.

Both the F-22 and the F-16 have 20mm canons aboard that are significantly less expensive than an AIM-9 per shot.

The issue isn't damned or not, the issue is Biden ordered the shoot down of 2 research balloons and an amateur hobbyists balloon in order to look tough by being trigger happy.
