I see this is Johnson stabbing Trump in the back in the public eye AND he never had any intention of doing so.

If he fully intended to do this all along he would have spoken about it publicly before OBBB went to floor vote and definitely in the immediate aftermath of the floor vote.

He waited what... 4? news cycles to utter a word AND only after the Musk interview (June 1?) content was leaked.

Trump should, politically and practically, reverse course on the OBBB (after Senate gets done for a plausible point in time) and start making demands of Congress for deeper cuts and lay it at their feet.

I want the DOGE cuts on a separate bill with nothing else on it. That way we can see who is opposed to saving the American taxpayer money, those that vote against it should be primaried promptly

I agree. And that is a mistake. It's Johnson's mistake (dishonorable?) to be doing what he's doing. It's Trump's mistake (political?) for not seeing it.

ETA: interesting how all the handwringing of Trump over interfering with the judiciary as an independent branch of government just disappears when it comes to Congress and what they do with our finances. Now, all of a sudden, Congress is just doing Trumps bidding and is unable to do otherwise... supposedly.

There was a media notice they canceled the vote to codify DODGE.

Musk calls them out nicely...

And suddenly they are waiting on paperwork?

They'll do some performative cuts. Basically do the minimum and then do a round of Fox News lives about how the codified DOGE cuts. Just leave them alone and dont dig into and find that all they cut out was the budget for blue ink pens.

They're important, just not to them. I'm prepared to be shocked if little johnson does anything to move the needle.

He also promised single spending bills instead of omnibus ones but we still have yet to see that.

yet another reason, #35, that "one big bill" was a strategic and political mistake.

A bunch of separate ones, in the House, would have been much better.

What’s the explanation on why the didn’t include them on the original version? Were they left out so the bill would pass the Senate?

This is Biden's budget that the USA is operating under. Trump's budget comes later this year which is why this is a win right now.

That 1.6 trillion is projected over 10 years and only if there is no other spending bill passed in that time. What a joke. I'll settle for half a trillion in cuts from this year to the next.

Again... this is the process. There is no other avenue to do this. 1.6 trillion is very big. and it's all that can go through due to the process and procedures.

DOGE cuts are to discretionary spending. (Eg the federal bureaucracy). Under senate budget rules, you cannot cut discretionary spending (only mandatory) in a reconciliation bill.

So DOGE cuts would have to be done through what is known as a rescissions package or an appropriations bill.

The Big Beautiful Bill is NOT an annual budget bill and does not fund the departments of government. It does not finance our agencies or federal programs. Instead, it includes the single largest welfare reform in American history. Along with the largest tax cut and reform in American history. The most aggressive energy exploration in American history. And the strongest border bill in American history. All while reducing the deficit.

Why telegraph your next move? Goal 1 is extend the tax cuts and get done what you can through reconciliation. Don’t frick that up by putting everyone on alert that you’re coming after their pet projects.

You don’t say shite until the first bill is signed.

I understand DOGE and discretionary spending. But, they can't cut mandatory spending with this bill?
