Johnson was being pestered about the need to bring congress back in session immediately to write A/I regulations and to his credit described the need to better identify what IT is.

The A/I push being bandied about is supposably to manage self learning independent action by computer that would lead to loss of control by humans over nuclear war, biowar, hunger, energy etc. Singularity ?

I think the world is already past that point. The A/I centers being built only make the existing computing faster. The logic has already been lost to humans with irresponsible purpose. There are a lot of people out there that want to do society harm more so than a rogue computer.

Control of information has been lost, censorship is no longer possible with worldwide net working. Politicians are scared here.

History is stored totally dispersed and politicians can no longer white wash

Creation of false information is no longer the purview of the money class. Anyone can create a false video of remarkable quality

Thefts and scams are easily run by Nigerian princes without being taxed by politicians

Vehicles are no longer automonous and can be taking over by hackers from china.

Your television and other household electronics already report on your every interest formed by word and deed.

Flock cameras

Cell phone positioning data logging

just think,, a bad hacker could just shutdown all the US heart pacemakers.

Speaker Johnson said the legislation needs to start from a logical basis. I think that basis needs to start with morals, ethics, values etc. Something the politicians have an enormous problem conceptualizing. Maybe something like do not kill, do not steal, do not bear false witness, honor the family, do not cheat. Those values have been around since the Code of Hammarabi.

Any thing the Eurocrats , communists, democrates , Muslims , come up with will be useless in preventing singularity. A/I just makes their concepts faster, it does not change the direction.

Our laws and elections move way too slow.

The horse left the barn a while ago.

Any attempts to rein this is now is nothing more than CYA theater.

I fear we are headed for something really bad. I'd love to be wrong.

Elon Musk believes we have already entered the singularity. I wonder if that means they have achieved AGI behind the scenes.

It's like entering an actual black hole. You will never know you have crossed the event horizon until it is too late.

The only thing you can do is recognize it and prepare for the worst case scenario (as a society) while recognizing that it is here to stay. Trying to frame the discussions in terms of "we need to stop it" are completely useless.

I agree with a lot of what you said, but I don’t see this being possible. Pacemakers don’t connect to the internet, do they?

But in thinking about this more, I remember when they were looking for Nancy Guthrie, they were searching neighborhoods for Bluetooth or WiFi enabled pacemakers or something like that. I don’t remember the details enough to say for sure.

Johnson? Hell, it was his cronies who tried to by hook or by crook and under the cover of darkness roll back any existing Fed or State regulation on AI, by putting a legislative ban on any and all regulation at any level for a decade. Now, they approach him to "save" us? Give me a break....

If it were up to him we wouldn't even have the option of possible regulations, if we were to even choose to go that route.

They can not help themselves and laugh knowing we are clamoring for an intelligence that is even labeled "artificial".

What a racket!!

We did this to ourselves when we did not seek means to verify the truth, instead of allowing the media to herd us around like frightened lemmings. We did this to ourselves when we bought into the idea of compulsory government education. We did this to ourselves when we instituted an income tax that violated once almost-sacred standards of individual privacy.

Why Worry? It has been done before.

Isn't it funny that people said they were just doing the bidding of big tech when that happened, and now people are saying the government should stall AI by saying that even the big tech companies want regulations?

A few doom and gloom predictions from the AI leaders and now people who were against the AI companies are calling for regulations that will ultimately limit AI competition like the big companies want. What a crazy twist.
