They literally died for slavery, but you go ahead and call that freedom.

Pretending that the issue was that simple, again regardless of perspective, only displays that you are an idiot. Slavery was simply not the only issue at play with the Texian settlers and the Mexican government. Not even close.

yeah a big issue was also how the texans killed the mexicans trying to collect taxes.

But everyone is referencing the completely sanitized movies, so I'll go the opposite.

Obviously the truth is somewhere in the middle.

Still wonder why we can teach this in schools, but teach about MLK and omg time to ban books.

Well, the Spanish/Mexicans completely changed the terms of the deal with their new settlers …. twice.

That tends to be a bit of a problem, when you have completely uprooted yourself and your family and move thousands of miles.

Poor, poor centralist, authoritarian Mexico. Just a good actor and stable, benevolent government that couldn't reign in those racists in Texas.

You know that the Texas independence affair was part of a broader chain of rebellions among several different Mexican states, right? I'm assuming you don't, considering you think it all had to do with slavery and Mexican tax collectors.

As I am sure you know, Texas law requires that Texas history be taught in the seventh grade and again in high school. This issue is barely addressed in the mandatory materials.

I did not read much about it until many years later. As I recall, several of the southernmost Mexican states also declared themselves (briefly) independent.

Nothing in your article even remotely suggests that teaching about MLK is being banned.

I personally don't give a shite what books some school district in Pennsylvania uses in its curriculum.
