Luke Mixon didn’t just “roll up out of nowhere” to run for U.S. Senate. Governors and party chairs don’t endorse people like that.
Whatever you think of his political leanings, the guy has a background that important folks in the party (and outside the party, even if they disagree with his politics) believed was impressive, and he was on the radar as someone who would be willing to put themselves out there.

He’s the guy running a race he knows he can’t win in order to build a donor base and name in the Louisiana political realm so that he can run for a state rep/senate seat next year. He’s also the guy trying to be another JBE using military service as a way lure in conservative voters. He’s an aspiring JBE without family political machine.

He knows he has no chance. He’s in this only to establish name recognition for future political campaigns.

He’s running in a state with a conservative majority that conservatives are extremists in a campaign commercial. That tells you all you need to know about how smart this guy is.
Also, his name sounds like he should be a bad starting QB for Ole Miss
