I, personally, believe that social media is the most detrimental invention to societal cohesion ever created, and, in general, is the most destructive invention since the atomic bomb.

Social media has duped people into thinking their irrelevant opinion is relevant.

Politically speaking, the only time your opinion matters, is on election day. You can scream as loud as you want on twitter, but that doesn't make your opinion any less shitty.

It isn’t just that.

It is neurologically and psychologically damaging.

The negatives FAR outweigh the positives, IMO.

Once again, the left abuses the freedom of speech and press.....
Abuse of all freedoms in this country are the root cause of most all problems!

Social dilemma on Netflix is spot on with how dangerous social media has become. I’ve deleted all my social media stuff over the last few years. The last thing I had was Instagram and I got rid of it over the summer.

LinkedIn has been incredibly useful to me in finding post-military employment.

This is the only social media site I post on and I’ll likely take a prolonged leave from here once the election is done.

And?

As I said, this is the only one that I use and I’ll be taking a step back after Nov 3rd.

My use of one outlet doesn’t negate my statements.

Yup.

Also adding cameras to phones where someone can video an incident, crop out everything else that doesn't fit their narrative, and post it online within minutes of it occurring, leads to disinformation and immediate public judge/jury/executioner on the incident.

Regardless of the actual facts.

Why would china want to hack our social media? They already control it and censor out everything they don't like.

Also why would the others want to hack it? It's already being used to destroy our country.

Meh, we could go back-and-forth debating whether TD is a "social network" all day. Both sides have their valid points.

I do think that TD fits a loose definition of "social media," but that definition would basically expand the range of mediums to things like listservs, which I really don't think many people would consider to be social media.

That's basically all TD is...a bunch of listservs compiled into a convenient-to-navigate format.

In my view, there is a certain level of egoism - or lack thereof - when it comes to the platforms that most people would truly consider social media. You don't know who I am. I don't know who you are. My real-life persona is not directly tied to my TD handle. To me, that's a HUGE difference with significant implications.

But that's not to say that using TD doesn't involve some of the same risks and consequences as using something like Facebook.

I've travelled extensively throughout China over the years and I can attest to how dangerous this type of media censorship can be. This is antithetical to what America stands for and I fully support the governemnt getting involved in stopping this.

A subject we can all agree on. Social media in general is mostly just a narcissistic troll farm. It’s largely responsible for dividing the country into tribes... probably as much as the 60s if not more.

The devil’s playground if you’re of religious leanings.

That’s great and thank you for your service. I don’t really consider LinkedIn social media, although I guess technically it is. I was referring to more of Facebook twitter Instagram. Those type of platforms.
