Then why did President Trump’s October 9 announcement of the "deal" state that Russia would release over 300,000 tons IMMEDIATELY???

He thought the announcement would reduce diesel prices the same way that the 37 different "peace deal" with Iran announcements juiced the stock market

The announcement of the deal made sure to include the following caveat:

…depending on the condition of their Diesel Refineries.

Which one?

There is a federal that prohibits importation of Russian energy into the US until the President certifies that Russia has left Ukraine. The sanctions can be lifted by the Treasury, but the law prohibiting importation into the US is still in place.

There was reports of a Russian ship docking in North Carolina with fertilizer...haven't heard anything about a tanker with diesel.

They were moving hundreds of thousands of metric tons of ultra low sulfur diesel through the Baltic sea every month before the war. Ukraine has hammered their refineries with drone attacks.

Hence, the "end the war and we'll buy your diesel" proposition. Its not complicated, but libs look for any reason to clutch pearls.

What Bill is saying is true. Wright said that Russia doesn't currently have diesel to export.

quote:

…depending on the condition of their Diesel Refineries.

This is also true, and he mentioned it in the interview.

So, Trump saying that Russia has that much diesel ready to export was not true.

Sounds like invading Ukraine was a huge mistake.

He said "Russia exports, today, zero diesel." That is a word for word quote. McFaul twisted the statement into "If Russia has no diesel to sell..."
You read McFaul's bullshite, and attributed it to Wright. McFaul got you.

Maybe so, but would you like to address the dishonest framing of the OP clickbait tweet or just mindlessly bitch about Trump?

I wouldn't say that. 800k tons over the next few months sounds like a lot, but its not. It would be manageable for them under the current infrastructure.

No I didn't. Wright said the Russians will have diesel to export ONLY if they "reduce the conflict with Ukraine." Wright is pitching this as a peace incentive.

Negative. He was dodging Martha Raddatz's pathetic gotcha swipe.

.... OMG OMG OMG OMG this will help Russssssia OMG OMG OMG OMG

Russia's capacity for diesel production FAR exceeds its internal utilization. They have significant storage depots to support their war effort. They could quite easily sell from those as they ramp production back up. Technically, the depots would come from internal supply.

IT IS A WORD FOR WORD QUOTE!

The rest was contingent 100% on the US eliminating sanctions on Russian diesel, and .... sorry Martha .... telling Ukraine to knock off the refinery targeting.

Not many superpowers import refined petroleum products for obvious reasons (many not so obvious for the resident never-Trump loons). China is an example of this. Most Russian oil exports go there but zero diesel because they have excess refining capacity. Russia typically sells this stuff to countries like Turkey and Brazil which were part of the ban - hence the zero diesel currently being exported.

Sadly for the US, we don't build refineries anymore and do not have the excess capacity to refine additional diesel here.

Here's Burgum saying the exact same thing as Wright. The Russians don't currently have diesel to export. The deal is to give them incentive to export diesel IN THE FUTURE.

The President's lies (Oct. 9, "Russia will IMMEDIATELY!") are running out of steam to keep prices down.

Yup. That's why I think the lies are going to have a harder time moving the markets in the future.
