What I would call a “hoax” is maybe if the island was never bombarded to begin with.

As of right now, it’s more like a story where the casualties were PKIA but now we know they may be POW. That’s more of an update than an admission of fabrication.

We have differing “definitions,” - aka...opinions.

The first casualty of war is the truth. It has been that way since man crawled out of the slime.

But the characterization of "presumed" was heard not once. Every repot that I saw was basically a eulogy.

CNN has been decent about admitting not being able to verify certain claims, but not in this case.

Yeah, and war is hell and we don’t always have the best figures. Sometimes they get *updated* as information makes it way across the battle lines. Again this is where the PKIA comes into play. We don’t have the bodies but judging by the assault, it is reasonable to presume that they were killed.

Now that information has made its way to the non-Russian side from behind Russian lines, we can more properly assess that they were POWs.

That’s a long ways from a wholesale fabrication of a story from what you would expect when you call it a “hoax.”
