Go look at the map from the 2016 election. Most of the areas that are trendy with young professionals (like the Heights) in the Oil and Gas industry voted blue. Who do you think is casting those votes? There are some staunchly red areas out west, but in the city even rich areas are voting Blue.

Heights is where the rich gays live. Oil and gas folks live in the Woodlands (Exxon’s new campus) or Katy (old oil corridor) so they can get to decent public schools and affordable housing. Neither are Harris county. Beto may take Harris, but the ‘burbs will go to Cruz.

BTW - Abbott is up almost 20 points on his D opponent for governor.

The PRA ( People's Republic of Austin)

Beto is an empty suit who can speak Spanish.....problem is, Cruz speaks Spanish as well and does it better.

There is actually almost no hard data to support this outside of Dem wishes that "Texas is getting more Hispanic and brown people are required to vote for us!" or "Lots of Californians are moving to Texas so they are all raging liberals!"

The truth is quite different. In 1990 the Dems won every Statewide election except Ag Commissioner (which they barely lost), controlled the Texas Congressional Delegation, both Houses, and had the Senior Senator (Lloyd Bentsen). There were just under 17 million people in Texas. They took gerrymandering to a level never seen before to try to keep that majority. By '98 the GOP took every Statewide election and had both Senate seats. No Dem has won a Statewide race since. After redistricting in '00 the GOP took over the Congressional Delegation and had firm control of both Houses. Every election the GOP gap gets wider and wider. In '14 the closest race was 18 points. Why?

The Texas economy has been incredibly successful under GOP leadership. We have huge surpluses, low taxes, an economy larger than Russia, and a population over 28 million and growing by 500k per year. Standard of living is sky high for people here. People that grew up Democrats have seen just how much better their lives are with conservative governance and they don't want to go back even if they don't agree with everything the GOP stands for. Also it is important to remember the Texas Constitution only allows for the Leg to meet for a few months every 2 years and severely restricts what new laws that can be created.

There is a huge population of Hispanics in Texas but a very large percentage have intermarried with anglos. While there are some heavily Hispanic neighborhoods where people speak Spanish that are big Dem they are not the majority of Hispanics. Also many of the people that have moved from California or other liberal states are conservatives fleeing here. That's part of why those states get bluer while Texas gets redder. If you are a middle/upper middle class professional that wants a great place to raise a family and have a happy life Texas makes a hell of an option.

Austin?? Was there last weekend and seen tons of Beto bumper stickers lol

I’m in a conservative suburbish part of Austin and see nothing but Beto signs everywhere. Cruz isn’t even trying.

Cruz will win by 10+

I don't think people realize just how many repubs don't vote in Texas because they don't feel it's necessary. I know A LOT of them and I live in Austin. It's assumed Texas will be red so people don't bother. If it ever gets close or by chance goes blue for an election cycle, everyone who felt they didn't need to vote will vote and it'll swing back hard.
