So, have we transitioned away from "African American" back to "black?'

I'm so confused.
Upon reading the list of demands from the citizens of the newly formed United CHAZ of Seattle one thing that just a few months ago was an absolute social no-no stuck out to me.
Not once did they say African American, it was always "black."
Are we ok with using the word "black" when talking about a certain group of people again?
Their little social no-nos are changing so fast I can't keep up.

Can't remember exactly when and how I picked up on it, but in the past few years I've found that African American has become a bit passe, and black is all the rage. Back in black.

Good question.
What happens when they get their way and remove everything white, in turn "Africanizing" America? Do they go back to African American again?
So confusing.

Good b/c I refused to use the term AA anyway.
Just as I'm white, you're black. We're colors at the end of the day

The probable reason is that "African American" is too hard to type with the shift key and letters compared to "black".

I guess. Africa is a big place and has native born whites too. So, African-American could literally fit a white person.

Well, see, Black Lives Matter flows better than African-American lives Matter, so it’s okay in that sense. But yes, Black is insensitive, rather it should be African-American or POS, err I mean POC. Unless in use of Black Lives Matter. Follow?

Black must now be capitalized at all times even though it is not a proper noun.

Only African Americans can say black unless you have the special woke rider.

I'm happy to help with this one. In my whole life I can count on one hand the number of times I have ever heard a black person use the words "African American" when referencing black people to other black people. As best I can tell, "African American" is something Jesse Jackson invented in the 80s that sort stuck around. Black people will not be offended to be referred to as black people....Blacks or The Blacks sounds weird though. Hope this is helpful.

This is why I never converted.
Alas, it became passe because it was sooooooo fricking stilted.
Every time a white person used the term in front of a black person in day to day life, it was about as comfortable as a sandpaper thong.

Anyone who started using "African American" to describe individuals other than those Americans who were actually born in Africa or to African parents was a fool to begin with.
And that goes for any race or country of origin. Italian, Polish, Irish, German, any of them.

If you know any black people you’ll know they hate AA. It’s not that it’s offensive it’s irrelevant if they aren’t 1st generation immigrants from Africa

If I’m white then they’re black.

First thing I thought of ...
Clerks 2 - We're Taking It Back
Probably will be cancelled from history ...
One of the funniest movies ever ...

Crap, I am so behind the times. I have been using black my entire life. Good to know I am not back in style.
