Simply having a Louisiana license plate should not be probable cause for a stop.

I agree. Exactly what is it the governor of Texas wants to do? And to be honest Texas is a nice state but not a lot nicer than Louisiana. So why does anyone want to come here anyway?

Louisiana should just commandeer all essential equipment heading to Texas, I mean, at this point why not? Charge vehicles that don't have a Louisiana plate $1,000 a head to go to Texas.

We will have the Reconstituted United States of America with 50 strong men running the states and 1 strong man in DC chosen by the 4th Estate.

It is amazing how authoritarian we got at the drop of a hat and how we just laid down for it.

The U.S. Attorney General should be on the phone with 50 governors right now. Is Texas going to setup its own passport as well?

That’s the biggest takeaway from me during all this madness. How quickly our entire country can beg for govt to protect us from an invisible virus that may kill less people than the average flu season.
Much of terrified of our collective reaction than this flu.

I’m at a loss as to why the Louisiana governor isn’t beating down the door to the US Attorney General’s office about these state-level restrictions.

Either you are a US citizen, or you’re not. Either you can cross state lines, or you can’t. It’s not up to penny ante governors to decide this on a whim.

I also find it ironic that Texas and Florida are tougher about enforcing their border with another US state than they are with other countries.

You clearly have never driven up I55 to an LSU - Ole Miss game back in the day.

Around 1986 for example.

Well, hasn't he issued shelter in place orders and other unenforceable stuff on his populace? Doesn't his order include unnecessary travel?

Yes, but he has jurisdiction over his own population. And can issue emergency declarations as such.

The governor of Texas does not have jurisdiction over the people of Louisiana.

And as US citizens, Louisiana citizens have the right to cross state lines. It’s a federal issue. Not a state one, and the feds need to handle it. Not Texas and not Florida.

So, you are good with your governor taking away rights in your State then?

That was my point...

I've wondered if there is a Commerce Clause issue in all of this.

I think it would be more correct to say he has jurisdiction over anyone within his state's borders. If an LA resident driving through Texas is speeding, certainly they can be charged.

Simple solution, just rent a car that has out of state tags if you really need to go to Texas, but I don’t see why you would want to travel there unless you had family to take care of.
