Sometime in December of 2019, Murkowski was attending mass at Our Lady of the Snows in Girdwood.

Fr. Robert Whitney, based out of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Anchorage, was saying mass as a visiting priest.

Murkowski approached Fr. Whitney during mass with her hands out ready to receive communion but was denied the wafer. Fr. Whitney instead said a blessing over the senator. Murkowski did not make a scene and went back to her seat.

Anchorage-Juneau Archbishop Andrew Bellisario, well-known for his Leftist beliefs, was so upset with Whitney, he transferred him out of the much larger St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in Anchorage to the much smaller Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Soldotna.

Fr. Whitney, who grew up in Anchorage, must have known his withholding of communion from Murkowski because of her enthusiastic support of abortion would land him in hot water with the left leaning Bellisario.

There’s a culture war brewing in the Catholic Church much like the one threatening America. Fr. Whitney is not shy about his conservative views even though it puts him at odds with Bellisario and the left-leaning Pope Francis.

Church Militant

It's pretty common knowledge that conservative priests get sent to small town / boondock parishes by liberal bishops, while liberal priests get the plush, prestigious city assignments. BS church politics been going on for years.

He should be. I don’t want my priest judging my actions and denying my rights to Christ. Judgment is for God alone.

If purity of heart or no sin was a requirement to receive communion no one in the world would ever receive it.

Serves her sorry arse right. The fact that they exiled the priest is just another sign of the impending apocalypse.

There is really no such thing as a liberal catholic. Not sure what these idiots in the church are trying to do unless it is a mandate by the Marxist current Pope to tear the church apart to follow the globalists plan to divide everyone.

I'd be ready for a world war against the globalists... let's get this shite done so the billions of people of the world can live in peace.

Actually, you're not supposed to present yourself for Holy Communion if you're causing scandal by supporting a serious sin, which abortion is.

The priest did her a favor, by giving her a blessing instead, that she needs to get right with God.

We're all sinners. Sincere repentance and sacramental confession (for Catholics) allow one to present oneself for Holy Communion legitimately.

I heard this story on Church Militant just this morning. Apparently it took the journalist a long time to get to the bottom of it.

I hope the exiled priest settles into his new digs. Soldotna looks like a sportman's paradise of the nawth.

Wait.

A priest denied Holy Communion to a parishioner, because he did not like her politics?

And you CONDONE this behavior?

If the issues the pope and Catholicism cares about the most are the environment, poverty, migration, racial and income inequality, abortion rights, and things like that then why even be a Catholic? You can get the same shite from the NFL, Netflix, and McDonald's. Even Pornhub supports BLM.

How about sin, temptation, unbelief, persecution of Christians, materialistic addictions and greed, decline of family and community, libertine and hedonistic sexual mores?

I'm not religious at all, but there's something to be said about the whole supports abortion thing. In the religion world, that tends to be a big no no.

You're permitted to receive the Eucharist if you haven't committed a mortal sin since your last confession. Nobody is pure of heart, but you can "take out the garbage" via Reconciliation.

Murkowski is obstinately and publicly violating the precepts of the Church by being a pro-abortion elected official. If she wants to receive Christ she should do it on His terms, not her own.

It's primarily in the global north that Catholics consider themselves entitled to Communion. In Latin America you see long confessional lines and short Communion lines because there, people have reverence for the Eucharist and won't receive it when they aren't properly disposed to do so.

Also keep in mind that Murk was most likely looking for a confrontation. How did the bishop know? A third party isn't going to be watching her closely to see if she requested a host or a blessing. And the priest didn't make a spectacle of the encounter. He simply gave a blessing, which he should do if he knows someone isn't properly disposed.

He denied her Holy Communion for her very public stance in support of abortion. To receive the Eucharist while in a state of mortal sin is a big no, no in the Catholic Church. He wasn't doing it out of spite, he was doing it for her own benefit.

I've purposely sat in the pews for many, many years without receiving communion because I've held a blackness in my heart for something with which I'd not confessed to or sought forgiveness for in my prayers.

Ah yes...the Catholic Church's solution to fixing issues with a priest...just transfer him to a new parish.

Not saying I agree with the Bishop, but the move makes no sense.
